Making the recess in the rear bumper for the ball hitch
- 3 -
- Once removed, lay the rear bumper on a soft felt underlay, with the inside facing upwards.
- Using a suitable tool, mark the centre point of the predetermined axes of coordinates (see
arrows) where the four holes are to be drilled.
- Drill holes with a diameter of 10.5 mm at each of the marked points.
Note. Make sure the holes are in exactly the right place.
- 4, 5 -
Attach the unassembled die to the rear bumper as follows.
- Screw the four bolts (N) with washers (R) into the bottom support plate.
- Place the die plate (L) on top of the bottom support plate (K) with the cutting edge facing
upwards (facing towards the bumper).
- Attach this set to the outside (painted side) of the bumper such that the bolts insert into
the holes that have been drilled.
- Place the pressure plate (M) for the inside of the bumper over the projecting bolt shafts.
- Gently screw the entire assembly together using the M10 nuts (P) with washers (R).
Caution. Make sure the painted side of the bumper does not get
damaged in any way.
- 6 -
- Visually check the position of the assembled die. If necessary, align the die with the
lower edge of the bumper as precisely as the play between the bolts and the pre-drilled
holes in the bumper will allow.
- If there are no problems, tighten the nuts gradually in a crosswise sequence, one thread
turn at a time. Keep repeating this process until the die plate cutting edge is lying against
the upper pressure plate. The maximum tightening torque of the nuts is 45 Nm. Once the
nuts have been fully tightened, the recess in the bumper is cut out.
- 7, 8 -
- Unscrew the M10 nuts and carefully remove the die. Lift up the pressure plate (away from
the bumper) and remove it. Lower the die plate and support plate (away from the bumper)
and remove them from the recess made.
- Push the cut-out part out of the die plate by pressing a suitable tool through the opening in
the centre of the die plate (see arrow).
- Thoroughly clean all around the recess made using a suitable tool.
Bond the frame to the recess made in the rear bumper
- 9 -
- Clean and degrease the adhesive surface of the rear bumper (around the recess made) using
a suitable cleaning agent (we recommend Terostat 8550). The adhesive surface must be
completely free from grease and paint residue. Leave to dry for approx. 10 minutes.
