USING THE RANGE
IN CASE OF A POWER FAILURE
In t he event of a power failure, t he oven is inoperable and no
at t empt should be made t o operat e it . However, t he surface
burners may be lit wit h a mat ch. Using ext reme caut ion,
hold a lit mat ch near t he port s beneat h t he surface burner
cap, t hen slowly t urn t he knob t o t he LITE posit ion. Once lit ,
surface burners will cont inue t o operat e normally.
SURFACE BURNERS
Light ing a Surface Burner
WARNING
Burners should be operat ed only when
covered by cookware. Burner flames not covered by
cookware present a risk of fire or clot hing ignit ion. Never
let flames ext end beyond t he sides of t he cookware.
Failure t o comply may result in serious injury.
Make sure all burners are in t heir correct locat ions and fully
assembled before at t empt ing t o operat e any burner.
Select a burner and find it s cont rol knob. Push t he knob in
and t urn it t o t he LITE posit ion.
You will hear a clicking noise—t he sound of t he elect ric spark
ignit ing t he burner. When one burner is t urned t o LITE, all
burners will spark. Sparking will cont inue as long as t he knob
remains at LITE. Once gas is ignit ed, t urn t he knob t o adjust
t he flame size.
Push t he cont rol knob in and t urn it t o t he LITE posit ion.
Select ing a Flame Size
Wat ch t he flame, not t he knob, as you adjust heat . When
rapid heat ing is desired, t he flame size should mat ch t he
size of t he cookware you are using. Flames larger t han t he
bot t om of t he cookware will not heat fast er and may be
hazardous.

Using t he Surface Burners
NOTES:
• Do not operat e t he burner for an ext ended period of t ime
wit hout cookware on t he grat e. The finish on t he grat e
may discolor or chip wit hout cookware t o absorb t he heat .
• Do not at t empt t o disassemble any burner while anot her
burner is on. Damage t o t he product may occur.
• Be sure t he burners and grat es are cool before you place
your hand, a pot holder or cleaning mat erials on t hem.

The smallest burner is t he simmer burner. A simmer burner
t urned down t o LO provides precise cooking performance
for foods such as delicat e sauces t hat require low heat for a
long cooking t ime.
Surface Burner
The round burner is for general cooking purposes. Size
cookware appropriat ely t o t he flames.
