GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY INFORMATION
EXCESSIVE INLET AIR / HYDRAULIC PRESSURE.
WARNING
Can cause personal injury, death, pump damage or prop-
erty damage.
Do not exceed the maximum inlet air / hydraulic pressure
z
as stated on the pump model plate.
Be sure material hoses and other components are able to
z
withstand fluid pressures developed by this pump. Dam-
aged hose could leak flammable liquids and create poten-
tially explosive atmospheres. Check all hoses for damage
or wear. Be certain dispensing device is clean and in prop-
er working condition.
Do not exceed the maximum material pressure of any
z
component in the system.
A pressure relief valve must be used to prevent overpres-
z
surization of the system and possible component rupture.
WARNING
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. Can cause serious in-
jury or property damage. Do not attempt to return a pump
to the factory or service center that contains hazardous
material. Safe handling practices must comply with local
and national laws and safety code requirements.
Obtain Material Safety Data Sheets on all materials from
z
the supplier for proper handling instructions.
MAXIMUM SURFACE TEMPERATURE LIMITS.
WARNING
Maximum surface temperature depends on the operating
conditions of the pump. Do not exceed maximum tem-
perature limits as noted on page PTL-1.
Do not allow the pump to run dry. Pump surface tempera-
z
tures will rise and temperatures may exceed maximum
temperature limits of packings, as noted on page PTL-1.
Ensure proper housekeeping to eliminate dust buildup on
z
the pump. Certain dusts may ignite at pump surface tem-
perature limits, as noted on page PTL-1.
Excessive hydraulic oil temperatures can cause fire. The
z
hydraulic motor is rated for operation up to 130˚ F (54˚ C).
Maximum temperatures are based on mechanical stress
z
only. Certain chemicals will significantly reduce maximum
safe operating temperature. Consult the chemical manu-
facturer for chemical compatibility and temperature limits.
MARKING. ARO excludes marking individual
WARNING
pumps according to section 11.2 of ISO 80079-36:2016
due to complexity of material & seal combination prod-
uct configurations – Please reference detailed additional
instructional information provided and enclosed as des-
ignated by the "X" in the Atex Directive 2014/34/EC mark-
ing. Example:
II 2GD X – where the X means reading
and understanding all the warning, cautions and addi-
tional instructions in this manual.
The actual surface temperature of the pumps depend on
z
the running conditions of the pump, the materials of con-
struction, the temperature of the fluid pumped, and the
environmental conditions.
Do not let piston pumps run dry for extended periods of
z
time. Pumping air or other gases instead of fluids (oth-
erwise known as "Pump Dry" or "Dry Running") will raise
pump surface temperatures and the temperature may
exceed the maximum temperature limits of the packing
seals. Surface temperatures can exceed 250° F (121° C) and
could ignite potentially explosive gases or dust in contact
with the pump.

For use in Explosive Gas Atmospheres the TEMPERATURE
z
range rating is limited by the materials & seals used in the
construction per possible product configuration. Materi-
al temperature limitations are provided and must not be
exceeded in the application. The pumps follow ISO 80079-
36:2016: Ex h IIB Gb.
For use in Explosive Dust Atmospheres the TEMPERATURE
z
range rating is limited by the materials & seals used in the
construction per possible product configuration. Materi-
al temperature limitations are provided and must not be
exceeded in the application. The pumps follow ISO 80079-
36:2016: Ex h IIIC Db.
All Pumps.
WARNING
Leaking Fluids can cause explosion hazards.
Re-torque all pipe and hose fittings to insure against fluid
z
leakage.
Pump damage caused by improper mounting or piping
z
stress and external damage can result in fluid leakage.
Barrel pumps must be removed from the container when
z
not in use.
Inlet of pumps must always be submerged in media being
z
pumped.
Pumps must never be run dry.
z
Leakage from the hydraulic motor weep hole should be
z
inspected daily. Seals must be replaced if leakage exceeds
5 cc/ day.
WARNING
HAZARDOUS PRESSURE. Can result in serious
injury or property damage.
Do not service or clean pump, hoses or dispensing valve
z
while the system is pressurized.
Disconnect air / hydraulic supply line and relieve pressure
z
from the system by opening dispensing valve or device
and / or carefully and slowly loosening and removing out-
let hose or piping from pump.
WARNING
INJECTION HAZARD. Any material injected into
flesh can cause severe injury or death. If an injection oc-
curs immediately contact a doctor.
Do not grab front end of dispensing device.
z
Do not aim dispensing device at anyone or any part of the
z
body.
CAUTION
Verify the chemical compatibility of the pump
wetted parts and the substance being pumped, flushed
or recirculated. Chemical compatibility may change with
temperature and concentration of the chemical(s) within
the substances being pumped, flushed or circulated. For
specific fluid compatibility, consult the chemical manufac-
turer.
CAUTION
Protect the pump from external damage and do
not use the pump for the structural support of the piping
system. Be certain the system components are properly
supported to prevent stress on the pump parts.
Suction and discharge connections should be flexible con-
z
nections (such as hose), not rigid piped, and should be
compatible with the substance being pumped.
Be certain all operators of this equipment have
CAUTION
been trained for safe working practices, understand it's
limitations, and wear safety goggles / equipment when
required.
