FOREWORD
Constructed of 16 elements in 12 groups, the Zoom-Nikkor
35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 is a versatile, easy-to-operate. high per-
formance zoom lens, offering a variety of focal lengths
from wide-angle, normal to telephoto over its 3X zoom
range. For convenience, it features quick, t>ne-ring focusing
and zooming: simply turn the ring to focus and push or pull
it to zoom. Normal focusing extends from infinity down to
1.4m (5ft) with provision for close focusing at all focal
lengths by operating the special macro ring. At the 35mm
setting, close focusing ranges from 1.4m (5ft) down to
0.27 in (0.9ft). Filter size is the standard 52mm Nikon size -
exceptionally small for a zoom lens with this wide a range
of focal lengths.
Constructed of the highest quality Nikon glass, this zoom
lens produces sharp images with high contrast from the
shortest to the longest focal length with all aberrations well
corrected. In addition, Nikon Integrated Coating (NIC) is
applied to all air-to-glass surfaces of the lens elements to
minimize ghost images and flare and produce photographs
with natural color rendition.
The lens offers "automatic maximum aperture indexing" (AI) with
suitably equipped cameras, via the meter coupling ridge provided
(except F-401/N4004"). The meter coupling ridge and automatic
diaphragm function together to permit full aperture exposure meas-
urement. For non-AI type Nikon cameras, this lens is also fitted
with a meter coupling shoe to permit the same operation.
"The Nikon N4004 is sold exclusively in the U.S.A.
MOUNTING THE LENS
A
Position the lens in the camera's bayonet mount, aligning the green
aperture index on the lens with the lens mounting index on the
camera. Then, twist the lens counterclockwise until it clicks into
place. To remove, depress the lens release button on the camera and
twist the lens clockwise.
Notes:
1) When mounting the lens on an A1-type camera with a lift-up
meter coupling lever, make sure the lever is in the "down "po-
sition; when mounting on a camera without this lever (non-AI
type), "manual" maximum aperture indexing is required. For
more information, refer to the camera's instruction manual.
2) When the lens is used with the Nikon F-401 /N4004, the camera
meter coupling function does not operate and the exposure in-
dicator LEDs do not appear.
ZOOMING
-B
To zoom in and out, look through the viewfindei and slide
the focusing/zooming ring back and forth until the desired
composition is framed on the focusing screen. As the ring is
pushed forward for longer focal lengths, a four-position
scale (35mm, 50mm, 70mm, and 105mm) is uncovered on
the lens barrel to show which focal length the lens is set for.
Of course, you can use intermediate settings. To preset the
lens for a specific focal length, align the edge of the focusing
ring with the top edge of the digits of the desired focal
length.
