released. To continue recording, press the
@» Play button
to
release the pause mode. This button is very convenient for making
blank sections of sufficient length for automatic song sensing
systems such as AMCS
that operate by detecting biank sections
between
songs.
The Automatic Tape Selection System
This deck automatically detects the type of cassette that has been
loaded in the cassette holder and sets the bias and equalization to
the correct settings. The cassette type is then displayed by the tape
selector indicator
[12] . Tape selection is performed by detecting the
presence or absence of identification pits on the back of the cassette
shell. Cassettes manufactured
before this identification system was
adopted and bargain cassettes that do not incorporate these pits can
not be used with this deck.
Timer Recording and Playback
When connected to an audio timer (optional), this unit can be set
for preset timer recording and playback. Connect the tape deck and
the rest of the audio system to the audio timer and test the
arrangement to be sure that timer recording and playback proceed
properly. Refer to the audio timer instruction manual
for directions
on making connections.
(1) For timer recording, tune in the desired radio station and adjust
the tape deck input level to the proper recording level. Then set
the timer to switch power on at the desired time, and set this
unit's timer switch
21] to the REC position.
e
Note that the power switches of this unit and the audio system
must be left ON.
@
If no sound is required from the speakers during the actual
recording, turn the amplifier volume control down.
(2) For use as a morning alarm (timer playback), set this unit and
the audio system for normal playback, then set the audio timer
to switch on the power at the desired time. Next set the timer
switch
21] to the PLAY
position, remembering to leave the
relevant power switches in the ON positions.
@
Alwayscheck that the volume control on the amplifier
has been set to the proper level.
Using a Microphone
To use a microphone, connect it to the rear panel microphone
input
jacks
and then set the microphone/line switch
to the MIC
position. When finished, remember to return the microphone/line
switch to the LINE position.

Handling Cassette Tapes
Erasure Prevention
Cassette
tapes are constructed with erasure prevention niches along
the back edge that are initially covered by break-off tabs. Once a
recording has been completed, break off the tab(s) to prevent
accidental erasure since it will no longer be possible to depress the
record button with such a cassette. If at some later date you wish to
re-record that cassette, simply cover the openings with smail pieces
of cellophane tape, being sure that the metal or high position
detection holes are not covered, too.
