Set up the record player
Install the pick-up arm counterweight
The counterweight supplied must be installed on the pick-up arm. It is used to set the
correct weight so that the needle moves over the records without jumping or cutting too
deeply into the groove.
1.
Place the record player on a horizontal, vibration-free base.
2.
Release the pick-up arm lock so that the pick-up arm is free.
3.
Set the anti-skating controller to "0".
4.
Push the supplied counterweight (with the scale at the front) onto the pick-up
arm from the back to the front (1).
5.
Lift the pick-up arm from the holder so that it moves freely.
6.
Turn the counterweight on the pick-up arm to the right as far as the white line.
The pick-up arm should 'float' in a horizontal position (2).
7.
Now set the scale ring, not the weight, to "0" (3). This is the zero point.
8.
Now set the weight by turning the counterweight to the left (4). We recommend
2.5–4 g.
Anti-skating
Anti-skating works against the inward pull of the needle.
Set the anti-skating controller to the same value as the pick-up arm counterweight. In
other words, if the counterweight is set to 3, set the anti-skating controller to 3 also.
NOTE
If in doubt, start by selecting a lower weight for the needle. If the needle still jumps,
increase the weight by small increments. If the weight is too high, the needle will
stick in the groove and both needle and record will be subject to excessive wear.
