OPERATION
STARTING UP
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE, ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL LEVEL.
SEE THE MANUAL FOR MORE DETAILS ON ENGINE OPERATION AND
MAINTENANCE.
NOTE:
Be very careful not to let dirt get into the engine when checking
or add oil or fuel.
OIL
Use a high quality oil according to the Gasoline Engine Manual.
Do not use special additives.
CHECKING AND ADDING OIL
Check the oil level daily or every eight hours.
Keep the oil level at FULL.
Don't overfill it.
OIL CHECK PROCEDURE
Before starting the engine, check the oil level.
Place the engine on level. Clean around the oil filler cap and dipstick.
Reinsert the dipstick and remove it to check the oil level.
Remove the oil tank cap. Pour in the oil slowly.
Fill to the FULL mark on the dipstick and check again.
Replace the rod.
FUEL
Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded gasoline in accordance with the engine manual.
ADD FUEL
Fill the tank outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights, heat and
other ignition sources. If fuel is spilled, wait for it to evaporate before starting the engine. Turn off the
engine and let it cool for at least 2 minutes before removing the gas cap. Remove the plug. Fill the tank
to approximately 38mm below the top of the neck to allow for fuel expansion. Be careful not to overfill.
Replace the cap before starting.
STARTING AND STOPPING
TIPS
Store and refuel equipment in a level position.
Use new fuel.
Use the correct type of oil according to the engine manual.
Removes external loads from the equipment/engine.
Periodically remove any buildup of debris from the machine.
After starting the engine, allow it to warm up for several seconds to several minutes, depending on the
outside temperature.
For maximum performance and life, run the engine with the choke on RUN and the throttle on FAST.
TO START THE ENGINE
Check the oil level.
Open the fuel shutoff valve.
Move the choke control to the CHOKE position.
Move the throttle to the TURTLE position. Run the engine with the throttle in the RABBIT position.
Let the engine warm up. Slowly adjust the choke control toward the RUN position. Wait until the engine
runs smoothly before each choke adjustment.
TO STOP THE ENGINE
Move the throttle to the TURTLE position.
Move the throttle lever to the far left.
Consult the instructions in the engine manual.
CAUTION: Do not stop the engine by moving the choke control to CHOKE. Kickback, fire, or engine
damage could occur.
NOTES ON OPERATION
When starting the engine, the engine of your wood chipper runs without load at 3600 RPM up to
approximately 1200 - 1400 RPM's, at which speed the centrifugal clutch engages and begins to drive
the rotor. Rotor speed is 2400 RPM +/- 200 RPM when the engine is at full speed. Viewed from the
operator's area, the wheel rotates clockwise.
This rotation drags the branches towards the wood chipper.
Always use protective gloves and safety glasses while operating the wood chipper. If necessary, push the
material into the hopper of the wood chipper, only use a wooden stick, never your hands or anything
made of steel.
Always keep your hands out of the wood chipper hopper.
Keep the discharge area free of people, animals, buildings, glass or anything else that could obstruct the
discharge, cause injury or damage.
Wind can also change the direction of discharge.
