4.0 SAFETY INFORMATION
IMPORTANT: In all installations the site safety
requirements must be adhered to. The safety of the
operator and any assisting personnel is of paramount
importance along with the safety of others including the
general public.
These instructions are only to cover the safe operation
of ATM-5 during a normal maintenance and installation
operation. All other safety aspects must be controlled
by the operation supervisor.
CAUTION: The ATM-5 must not be attached to
pressure vessel nozzles.
CAUTION:The ATM-5 must not be attached to a
joint prior to misalignment.
5.0 LIST OF EQUIPMENT
The carrying case for ATM-5 has cut outs for each
component. The tool set includes
1x Carrying case c/w foam insert
1x Instruction & repair sheet
1x Alignment tool
1x RC-53 hydraulic cylinder
1x Hydraulic hose
1x P-142, hand pump
6.0 EXAMINATION - MAINTENANCE
On return from each job, and before beginning
subsequent work. The tool set should be examined to
ensure that all items are present and serviceable.
Any missing or damaged items are to be replaced as
soon as possible and prior to further use.
• Grease all moving parts regularly.
• Ensure rollers and pins remain grit free.
• Return all items to the carrying case when not in use.
7.0 FUNCTION OF ATM-5
The ATM-5 should be secured to the lower of the two
flanges by fully inserting the lift hook into the bolt hole
which is parallel with the bolt hole on the opposite
flange. This is where the misalignment is at its greatest
point. The drop leg should be released onto the pipe
while the tool is held up level in the bolt hole.
Pull out on wing release clip to allow the wing to be
extended to the desired distance.
The hydraulic cylinder is secured into the adjusting
sleeve. Rotate the cylinder and adjusting sleeve
clockwise until the swivel at the base of the cylinder
comes into contact with the circumference of the
opposite flange.
The swivel at the base of the hydraulic cylinder should
always rest fully and evenly on the circumference of the
opposite flange.
Attach the hydraulic pump and hose to the cylinder and
prime the hand pump.
8.0 MISALIGNMENT DETERMINATION
PROCEDURE
• The ATM-5 must not be attached to a flanged joint
prior to the misalignment determination procedure
being carried out.
• Every second bolt should be loosened and removed.
Continue with this procedure. Misalignment may not
occur until only a few bolts remain. At this point the
direction of any misalignment should become
obvious.
• The ATM-5, once attached, will directly push against
the misalignment bringing the joint back into
alignment.
Example: Misalignment in various directions
A flanged joint, once broken down, may spring out of
alignment at any point, or in any direction around.
See figure 1. The ATM-5 should be attached at the
maximum point of misalignment i.e. A or B. Each
example shows where ATM-5 should be attached.
