AUDIO CONNECTIONS and SET-UP:
To reduce chances of vehicle-induced noise gener-
ated by radiation from other electrical equipment
entering your sound system, use audiophile quality
RCA extension cables whenever possible. We re-
commend
Alpine's
gold
plated,
triple shielded
wires and accessories for best results. These ac-
cessories feature a copper braid/aluminum
foil
shield which is completely isolated from the signal
path. This independent shield will block any radiat-
ed noise from entering the audio signal.
A great deal of time and labor will be saved if you
invest in high quality signal cables before the
system is installed, rather than upgrading after a
noise problem surfaces.
Route the sound system's audio cables and power
cables separately, as far away from each other as
possible, in order to minimize chances of interfer-
ence from high current power wires (such as power
amp battery leads) being picked up by the audio
cables.
The Alpine's 3681 is a very versatile and flexible
piece of equipment. To achieve this high degree of
versatility, many installer-adjustable controls are
provided, which affect several modes of operation.
After the 3681 is mounted properly, it should be set
up as described on the next page. We recommend
using Alpine 4409, 4421 or 4451 extension cables
for high quality, reliable and long-lasting connec-
tions.
POWER CONNECTIONS:
CAUTION: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE VEHICLE
BATTERY'S NEGATIVE (—) TERMINAL BEFORE
STARTING ANY WIRING CONNECTIONS.
Use the diagram on the next page.
To insure a low impedance path from the vehicle's
battery to the 3681, 12-gauge or larger wire should
be used to extend the battery (+) or ground wires.
A7.5A in-line fuse should be used as close as possi-
ble to the battery's (+) terminal to protect the vehi-
cle and the system.
All audio components
should
be grounded
to a
common point on the chassis. This grounding point
must be verified as a true ground point by checking
its continuity with the battery's (—) terminal, using
an ohmmeter. It should also be free of paint and
contaminants.
