OPERATION
STARTING UP
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE, ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL LEVEL.
SEE THE MANUAL FOR MORE DETAILS ON ENGINE OPERATION AND
MAINTENANCE.
NOTE:
Be very careful not to let dirt get into the engine when checking
or add oil or fuel.
OIL
Use a high quality oil according to the Gasoline Engine Manual.
Do not use special additives.
CHECKING AND ADDING OIL
Check the oil level daily or every eight hours.
Keep the oil level at FULL.
Don't overfill it.
OIL CHECK PROCEDURE
Before starting the engine, check the oil level.
Place the engine on level. Clean around the oil filler cap and dipstick.
Reinsert the dipstick and remove it to check the oil level.
Remove the oil tank cap. Pour in the oil slowly.
Fill to the FULL mark on the dipstick and check again.
Replace the rod.
FUEL
Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded gasoline in accordance with the engine manual.
ADD FUEL
Fill the tank outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights, heat and
other ignition sources. If fuel is spilled, wait for it to evaporate before starting the engine. Turn off the
engine and let it cool for at least 2 minutes before removing the gas cap. Remove the plug. Fill the tank
to approximately 38mm below the top of the neck to allow for fuel expansion. Be careful not to overfill.
Replace the cap before starting.
STARTING AND STOPPING
TIPS
Store and refuel equipment in a level position.
Use new fuel.
Use the correct type of oil according to the engine manual.
Removes external loads from the equipment/engine.
Periodically remove any buildup of debris from the machine.
After starting the engine, allow it to warm up for several seconds to several minutes, depending on the
outside temperature.
For maximum performance and life, run the engine with the choke on RUN and the throttle on FAST.
TO START THE ENGINE
Check the oil level.
Move the engine switch to the ON position. Open the fuel shut-off valve. Move the air damper lever
to the CLOSED position. If the engine is warm, it is not necessary to close the air damper. Move the
throttle lever slightly to FAST speed. Pull the starter until it is difficult to pull the engine compression.
Let the starter return to the initial position, then pull quickly to start the engine. Repeat the steps as
necessary. Fully open the air draft and set the throttle to the FAST position before operating the unit.
TO STOP THE ENGINE
Set the throttle control lever to the SLOW position to reduce stress on the engine when you are not
roughing. Reducing engine speed will help prolong engine life, as well as conserve fuel and reduce
noise levels. To stop the engine in an emergency, simply turn the engine switch to the OFF position.
Under normal conditions, follow the procedure below:
Move the throttle lever to the SLOW position.
Let the engine idle for one to two minutes.
Turn the engine switch to the OFF position.
Turn the fuel valve lever to the OFF position.
Wait until the machine comes to a complete stop. Allow the engine to cool completely. Remove the
spark plug from the engine. Then clean the inside of the machine and its discharge line.
NOTES ON OPERATION
Do not move the choke control to CLOSE to stop the engine. Kickback or damage to the engine may
result. It may be necessary to pre-cut some side branches to allow the branch to feed itself more
efficiently. It is always advisable to process freshly cut material, as wood branches become very hard
and elastic when dry and can wear out knives more quickly. Always wear protective gloves and safety
goggles when operating the bio-chipper. If it is necessary to push the material into the chipper hopper,
use only a wooden stick, never your hands or anything made of steel, always keep your hands out of
the chipper hopper.
