1. Definitions and pictograms
The following terms are used in this manual
For
"DANGER":
preventing injury to personnel, whether fatal,
serious or minor.
"IMPORTANT": For remarks aimed at
preventing a failure, damage to the product,
equipment or environment, but not directly
representing a life or health hazard for the
operator or any other persons.
"NOTE":
For
precautions to be taken to ensure correct
installation, use and maintenance of the
equipment,
under
conditions, with no reference to any possible
damage or hazard to personnel.
"Load lifting wire rope": Wire rope installed on
lifting hoist and used to lift a load.
"Safety wire rope": wire rope on which the fall
arrest device is installed.
"Installer": person or department in charge of:
• installation of the fall arrest device in the
lifting installation,
• removal from service,
• transportation for storage,
• storage.
"Operator": person or department using or
installing the lifting installation.
"Technician": skilled, qualified person familiar
with the fall arrest device and in charge of
maintenance and inspection of the fall arrest
device as described in this manual.
2. Description of fall arrest devices
The Blocstop™ BSA fall arrest device is an
additional fall arrest device installed on a Tirak™
safety wire rope designed to stop a load in the
event of a fall.
Blocstop™ BSA automatic locking device:
installed on man lifting suspended platform
equipped with two manual or electric hoists. In
the event of a hoist failure or rupture of the lifting

wire rope, the fall arrest device stops the fall of
the suspended platform. This device is also used
to limit the inclination of the suspended platform.
"IMPORTANT": The Blocstop™ fall arrest

device is a quasi-machine as defined by
machinery directive 2006/42/CE. Use of the fall
arrest device is prohibited so long as the lifting
installation in which the fall arrest device is to be
integrated has not been declared as compliant
with the requirements of the machinery directive
or with the national measures reflecting this
directive in the country in which the device will
be used.
The Blocstop™ fall arrest device is sized for a
usability factor of 4.
Each fall arrest device has been functionally
tested at its working load limit prior to shipment.
