replace it by an equivalent serviceable device,
then return the faulty unit to Tractel or to an
approved repair agent for overhaul.
IMPORTANT: When lowering, you must
immediately check that the safety wire rope
slides freely in the fall arrest device. If this is not
the case, you must perform a lifting movement
to tension the lifting wire rope in order to open
the jaws.
IMPORTANT: Do not handle the lever (item
2, fig. 1) by any means other that the lifting wire
rope.
IMPORTANT: Do not hold the lever in the
jaw's open position by any means whatsoever.
7. Removal and storage
DANGER: Make sure there is no load on
the fall arrest device before you proceed to
remove it. The suspended platform or load must
be set on the ground.
IMPORTANT: You must observe the removal
from service recommendations in the lifting
system installation manual.
Removal of BSA fall arrest device:
– lower the suspended platform to a distance of
0.1 m to 0.2 m from the ground,
– remove the ballast counterweight(s) from the
end of the safety wire rope,
– remove the safety wire rope from the fall arrest
device,
– set the suspended platform on the ground,
– remove the lifting wire rope from the hoist,
– remove the lifting wire rope from the fall arrest
device,
– remove the two mounting bolts (item 7, fig. 7),
– remove the fall arrest device from the stirrup
on the suspended platform,
– reinstall the two bolts on the fall arrest device,
– store the fall arrest device after cleaning and
greasing it (see § Maintenance).
IMPORTANT: New locknuts should be used
each time the fall arrest device is installed.
8. Safety device
Blocstop™ BSA fall arrest device
The fall arrest function works automatically:
a lifting system failure is detected by the lever
(item 2, fig. 1) equipped with the detection roller
(item 4, fig. 1) which continuously rolls against
the lifting wire rope (item 6, fig. 1).
When the lever tilts downward (fig. 6), the fall
arrest device locks on the safety wire rope and
stops the fall of the suspended platform.
As specified in §2, four causes (a, b, c, d) of
failure or incident will cause the fall arrest device
to lock on the safety wire rope.
For causes:
– a and b: Rupture of lifting wire rope or hoist
failure. An emergency operation must be
organised to evacuate the personnel on the
suspended platform.
– c: Loss of tension on lifting wire rope. The
operator must re-tension the concerned lifting
wire rope by acting on the hoist in the lifting
direction, and clearing the suspended platform
from the obstacle. The fall arrest device
unlocks automatically on the safety wire rope
once the lifting wire rope is tensioned.
– d: Inclination > 14°. The operator must put the
suspended platform horizontal by actuating
the hoist on the lower side in the up direction.
The fall arrest device automatically releases its
grip on the safety wire rope.
