El proyecto del ES-3A Shadow, derivado del fa oso bi otor
antiso
de la Lockheed S-3 Viking, se realizo para que la U.S. Navy
dispusiera de un avion e barcado para el reconoci iento electronico
y la co unicacion. Basica ente, los ES-3A Shadow se realizaron
sobre la base de Viking
odificados y, a principio de los ahos '90,
ree plazaron a los antiguos EA-3B Skywarrior. Los equipos usados
para las
isiones de patrulla
ariti a y los sensores antiso
del
Viking se eli inaron y se sustituyeron con una avionica actualizada
y una a plia ga a de instru entos de co unicacion y de sensores
capaces de dese pehar de for a excelente el nuevo papel del
Shadow. La nueva configuracion operativa no ha
odificado las
prestaciones de vuelo de la celula de la Lockheed. El ES-3A, de
hecho, posee un buen radio de accion, una buena autono ia y una
elevada fiabilidad, caracterfsticas
uy apreciadas para su nuevo
perfil de
ision de apoyo a las operaciones de coordinacin tactica
de la flota.

realizzati su Viking odificati ed hanno di fatto ri piazzato i datati EA-

Viking vennero ri ossi e sostituiti da un ' avionica aggiornata e da
un vasto set di stru enti di co unicazione e di sensori in grado

configurazione operativa non ha
odificato le prestazioni di volo della
cellula della Lockheed. L ' ES-3A ha infatti un buon raggio d ' azione,
una buona autono ia e una elevata affidabilita, caratteristiche olto
apprezzate per il suo nuovo profilo di
issione a sostegno delle
operazioni di coordina ento tattico della flotta.

The ES- 3A Shadow has been derived directly fro
the fa ous
twin-engines anti-sub arine Lockheed S-3 Viking. It was designed
as a carrier-based, subsonic, all-weather, long-range, electronic
reconnaissance aircraft with the specific purpose to replace the aging
EA-3B Skywarrior starting fro
the beginning of ' 90s. Basically the
ES-3A was developed on
odified S-3A where an extensive set of
electronic and
odern sensors and co
unication tools replaced
the sub arine detection and
ariti e surveillance equip ent. The
new operating configuration has not changed the flight perfor ance of
Lockheed " airfra e". The ES-3A has in fact a good flight range and it
is very reliable. Such features are very appreciate for its new ission
profile to support the U.S. Navy fleet in the tactical co
unications
of the various units of the battle group.

Das Projekt der ES-3A Shadow, das aus de
beruh ten
zwei otorigen U-Bootjager der Lockheed, S-3 Viking entwickelt wurde,
wurde realisiert, u der US Navy zu er oglichen , uber ein auf eine
Flugzeugtrager stationiertes Flugzeug fur elektronische Aufklarung
und Ko
unikation zu verfugen. I Wesentlichen wurden die ES-3A
Shadow nach
odifizierten Vikings gebaut und ersetzten zu Beginn
der 90-er Jahre die uberholten EA-3B Skywarrior. Die Apparaturen, die
fur die Patrouillenfluge uber das Meer verwendet wurden, sowie die
U-Bootsensoren der Viking wurden entfernt und durch eine
oderne
Avionik und ein riesiges Set an Ko
unikationsinstru enten und
Sensoren ersetzt, die fur die neue Rolle der Shadow vorzuglich geeignet
waren. Die neue operative Konfiguration hat an den Flugleistungen
der Zelle von der Lockheed nichts geandert. Tatsachlich hat die ES-
3A einen guten Aktionsradius, eine gute Autono ie, und ist hoch
zuverlassig, Eigenschaften, die fur ihr neues Missionsprofil sehr
geschatzt werden, das darin besteht, die taktische Koordination der
Flotte zu unterstutzen.

tactique de la flotte.

Het ontwerp van de ES-3A Shadow, afgeleid van het beroe de
twee otorige antiso -toestel (ter bestrijding van Russische
onderzeeers) van de Lockheed S-3 Viking, werd ontwikkeld zodat
de U.S. Navy op haar vliegdekschepen over een vliegtuig kon
beschikken voor elektronische verkenning en co
unicatie. De ES-
3A Shadow vliegtuigen werden hoofdzakelijk ontwikkeld op basis van
aangepaste Vikings en hebben de verouderde EA-3B Skywarriors aan
het begin van de jaren '90 vervangen. De apparatuur gebruikt voor
arinepatrouilles en de antiso -sensoren van de Viking werden
verwijderd en vervangen door
odernere luchtvaarttechnologie en
door een rui
set instru enten voor co
unicatie en sensoren.
Hier ee kon het toestel voortreffelijk zijn rol van Shadow vervullen.
De nieuwe operationele configuratie heeft de vliegprestaties
van de constructie van de Lockheed niet gewijzigd.
De ES-3A
heeft een goede actieradius, een goede autono ie en een grote
betrouwbaarheid, eigenschappen die zeer gewaardeerd werden voor
zijn nieuwe profiel o
issies uit te voeren ter ondersteuning van
acties voor tactische coordinate van de vloot.
