Tests and approvals

The explosion-protection approvals are valid when using the gas transmitter in gas / vapour-
air mixtures of combustible gases and vapours or dust-air-mixtures of combustible dusts under
atmospheric conditions (800 to 1100 hPa). The explosion-protection approvals are not valid
for use in oxygen enriched atmospheres.
Approvals: see "Technical Data" on page 29, documents: see page 457 to page 485.
The CSA certification does not cover the gas detection performance in Class II or Class III
environments. The sensor may become clogged and may not detect gas. In this event, the
detector will signal a beam block fault.
Ex e PIR 7000 Junction Box (see assembly instructions 90 33 014):
Hazardous areas classified by zones:
This device is designed for use only in the explosion-hazard areas Zone 1 and 2 or Zone 21
and 22, with a temperature range to be maintained as specified on the device, and in which
gases of explosion groups IIA, IIB or IIC and temperature classes T4 or T6 (depending on the
maximum ambient temperature) or potentially explosive dust may occur.
– Not tested in environments with increased oxygen content.
Ex d PIR 7000 Junction Box (see assembly instructions 90 33 297):
Hazardous areas classified by zones:
The device designed for use only in the Ex areas Zone 1 and Zone 2, with a temperature to be
maintained as specified on the device, and in which gases of Explosion Groups IIA, IIB or IIC
and Temperature Classes T4 or T6 (depending on the maximum ambient temperature) or dust
of Groups IIIA, IIIB or IIIC may occur.
Hazardous areas classified by divisions:
The device is designed for use only in the Ex areas Class I and II Ex, Div. 1 or 2, with a
temperature range to be maintained as specified on the device, and in which gases or dust of
Groups A, B, C, D or E, F, G and Temperature Classes T4 or T6 (depending on the maximum
ambient temperature) may occur.
– Not tested in environments with increased oxygen content.
– The threads for the flameproof enclosure do not meet the minimum / maximum values from
EN / IEC 60079-1. The requirements from EN / IEC 60079-1 are exceeded. The threads are
not designed to be modified by the user.
Installation
The gas transmitter may only be installed by competent personnel (e.g. Dräger service personnel)
who observe the regulations applicable at the respective location of use.
Mounting location
– The mounting location needs to be selected for maximum detection effect. Make sure that
the air can circulate freely around the gas transmitter.
– Make sure the gas transmitter is mounted as close as can be to the possible source of leaks.
– To monitor gases or vapours that are lighter than air, the gas transmitter needs to be
installed above the possible source of leaks.
– To monitor gases or vapours that are heavier than air, the gas transmitter needs be
installed as close as possible to the ground.
– The air flow conditions on site need to be taken into account. Install the gas transmitter at a
place where the gas concentration is expected to be highest.
– Install the gas transmitter in a position where the risk of mechanical damage is lowest.
The gas transmitter must be sufficiently accessible for maintenance. Make sure that there is
a clearance of approx. 20 cm around the gas transmitter!

WARNING
Observe the preferred orientation
– If a splash guard is used then take care to ensure it is mounted with the status lights in a
vertical row. The "Dräger" logo on the splash guard must be readable in horizontal
orientation. A maximum deviation of ±30° from the horizontal orientation is permissible.
For gas transmitters with 3/4" NPT threaded connection, it might be necessary to use a
connecting union to maintain the preferred orientation.
– Only without splash guard can gas transmitters be installed in a different position – and this
position bears an increased risk of contaminating the optical surfaces!
Water and / or dirt on the optical surfaces may trip a warning or fault.
Mechanical Installation
The flameproof enclosure is not to be opened by the user. Doing so could damage the device's
measuring technology. The device does not contain any parts that can be serviced by the user.
Any unauthorised opening of the device will invalidate the warranty.
Make sure that no screw connections will come loose on their own.
The gas transmitter is ready for attachment to a junction box.
The Ex e PIR 7000 Junction Box (68 11 898) is recommended for the model with M25
threaded connection (IDS 011x).
The Ex d PIR 7000 Junction Box (45 44 099 made of aluminium or 45 44 098 made of SS 316
stainless steel) is recommended for the model with 3/4" NPT threaded connection (IDS 010x).
In addition, any approved terminal box that meets the requirements set out below can be used:
Depending on the thread of the gas transmitter:
M25- or 25 to 26 mm insertion opening (Ex e and Ex tb). In both cases, the mounting
on the sensor must be secured by a nut in the terminal box
or
3/4" NPT (Ex d or explosion proof and Ex tb) insertion opening
Terminals available for at least three conductors (four conductors if serial interface
communication is used) and earth.
The terminal box is suitable for the mounting position and the application in question
The wall/post fixing of the terminal box and the gas transmitter must be made in such a way
that the terminal box is not subject to mechanical stress at the location of the connection.
Close any unused cable entry openings at the terminal box using approved plugs
For connection in the "Flameproof Enclosure" (Ex d) or "Explosion Proof" type of
explosion protection
If necessary: Install approved connecting piece for the relevant explosion protection type
between junction box and gas transmitter.
For connection in the "Increased Safety" (Ex e) type of explosion protection
The junction box wall must be between 4.2 mm and 12 mm thick on the mounting surface side.
In the area between 28 mm and 32 mm, the sealing surface must be even and clean to
ensure that the supplied O-ring seals perfectly.
Make sure that the M25 nut will not come loose on its own.
