Drilling holes for hinges
Figure 13 shows how to drill holes for hinges.
- Before drilling, always make certain the template is perfectly up against the work piece.
- Always match the mechanism with the work piece starting from the front edge.
- Check drilling depth before drilling.
- If the drilled hole is not clean, sharpen the bit.

Preparing elements before drilling – hinge axis indication
Indicate the hinge axes and the distance from upper and lower edges from the inside part of the work
piece on the side of the body. If possible, it is advisable to keep a 120mm distance from the edge
of the work piece. Position the door at the side element so that they protrude by the same amount
on both sides. Now copy the hinges' axes on the inner side of the door. Using a set square, draw the
axes of the hinges at about 150mm from the edge of the side element and the door. The precision
of the hinge indication will affect the positioning of the door at the top (Fig. 13).
