Dear Patient,
You have received the WalkOn, a dynamic lower leg orthosis made
of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic. The name WalkOn designates the
product family and the various types are "Trimable", "Flex" and
"Reaction". The orthosis type is selected by your orthotist and the
doctor who prescribed it
The orthosis is a medical device that provides support when you walk
and stand to compensate impaired physical functions. We have
compiled a few general questions and answers on the proper use
and handling of the WalkOn: Your orthotist will be happy to answer
questions about your specific situation and fitting of your orthosis.
What are the differences between the various types of WalkOn?
•
The classic 28U11 WalkOn and 28U23 WalkOn Trimable lift the foot
when you swing your leg through to walk. The orthoses are made of
a carbon fibre prepreg material. This makes them very lightweight
and gives them moderate energy return* when walking. There is a
carbon fibre spring at the back that extends from the Achilles tendon
to the calf. Both orthoses stabilise the ankle joint.
•
The 28U22 WalkOn Flex also ensures that your foot is lifted when
you swing your leg through to walk. Constructed from a glass/
carbon-fibre composite material and designed with a spiral
extending from the inner ankle to the outer calf, the orthosis is
particularly suitable if you want more flexibility in the ankle and knee.
It is also recommended if you need little energy return.*
•
The 28U24 WalkOn Reaction not only lifts the foot, it also supports
the knee joint. For this reason its design differs considerably from
the other orthoses. It is made entirely of a carbo- fibre prepreg
material and has high energy return.*
* Energy return: the energy stored at heel strike and toe-off that is returned at
foot roll-over. The aim is an almost natural gait.
