Risk of injury or damage
A cylinder that is operated without speed control can reach high speeds, and may cause
injury or machine breakdown.
Make sure that the cylinder is always operated with speed control.

7.1

Connecting the compressed air

All GPC cylinders have connection ports for compressed air at both
the top and the side of the cylinder body.
1. Make sure that the compressed air is shut off, then connect the
compressed air lines. The ports to the right pushes the cylinder
to the left, and the other way around.
2. Make sure that all unused ports are properly plugged.
To prevent uncontrolled cylinder runaway on starting, the
pressure must be increased slowly until the cylinder is in the
right position.
7.2

Setting the speed

WARNING
The speed is normally controlled by throttling the exhaust air from
the cylinder chambers with, for example, check-choke valves (1).
When the speed is being set, the cylinder must be loaded as in
normal service and the speed must be increased gradually to the
desired operating speed.
Set the piston speed and cushioning as follows:
1. Make sure that the pressure is zero and then increase the
pressure slowly to the desired working pressure.
2. Sligthly open the check-choke valves.
3. Increase the piston speed by opening the check-choke valves
gradually to reach the desired operating speed.
