WARNING: Before leavingthe operator's
positionfor any reason,disengage the
blades, place the shift lever in neutral,
engage the parking brake, shut engine off
and remove the key.
iMPORTANT: W henstoppingthe tractorfor any reason
whileon a grass surface,always:
1. Placethe shiftleverin neutral,
2. Engagethe parkingbrake,
3. Shutengineoff and removethe key.
Doingso will minimizethe possibilityof havingyourlawn
"browned" byhot exhaustfrom yourtractor'srunning
engine.
If unit stalls with speedcontrolin high speed,or if unit
will notoperatewith speedcontrol leverin a low speed
position,proceedas follows:
1. Placeshift leverin NEUTRAL.
2. Restartengine.
3. Placespeedcontrolleverin highestspeedposition.
4. Releaseclutch-brakepedalfully.
5. Depressclutch-brakepedal.
6. Placespeedcontrolleverin desiredposition.
7. Placeshift leverin eitherFORWARD or REVERSE,
and follownormaloperatingprocedures.
Engaging
the Blades
Engaging the PTO(BladeEngage)transferspowerto the
cuttingdeck or other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
Toengagetheblades, proceedas follows:
1. Movethe throttlecontrol leverto the FAST(rabbit)
position.
2. Graspthe PTO(Blade Engage)leverand pivot it all
theway forwardintothe engaged(ON)position.
3. Keepthe throttleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)position
forthe mostefficient useof the cuttingdeck or other
(separatelyavailable)attachments.
iMPORTANT: M odelswith ReverseCaution Mode:
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if the PTOis
engagedwith the shift leverinpositionfor reversetravel
with theignition key in the NORMALMOWINGposition.
Modelswithout ReverseCaution Mode:
The PTO(Blade Engage)levermustbe in the disen-
gaged(OFF)positionwhenstartingthe engine,when
travelingin reverse,and if theoperatorleavesthe seat.

Using the Deck Lift Lever
Toraisethe cuttingdeck,movethe deck lift leverto
theleft, then placeitin the notchbest suitedfor your
application.Referto SettingThe CuttingHeightearlierin
this section.
Driving
On Slopes
Referto the SLOPEGAUGEon page3 to helpdetermine
slopeswhereyoumay operatethe tractorsafely.

WARNING: Do not mow on inclines with
a slope in excessof 15degrees (a rise of
approximately 2-1/2 feet every 10 feet). The
tractor could overturn and cause serious
injury.
Mow up and downslopes,NEVERacross,
Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon
slopes,
Watchfor holes, ruts,bumps,rocks,or otherhidden
objects.Uneventerraincouldoverturnthe machine,
Tallgrasscan hide obstacles.
Avoidturns whendrivingon a slope. If a turn mustbe
made,turndownthe slope. Turningup a slopegreatly
increasesthe chanceof a roll over,
Avoidstoppingwhendrivingup a slope, if it is
necessaryto stop whiledrivingup a slope, startup
smoothlyand carefullyto reducethe possibilityof
flippingthe tractoroverbackward.
