2.C. Instructions To Use Multiple Scale-Up Capsules In Series Or Parallel Flow Path
3M ™ Emphaze ™ AEX Hybrid Purifi er Scale-Up capsules can be used in parallel to add capacity to
the process stream. 3M Emphaze AEX Hybrid Purifi er Scale-Up Capsules can be used in series
fl ow path with 3M ™ Zeta Plus
3M Emphaze Scale-Up capsules, the 3M Emphaze AEX Hybrid Purifi er capsules should be placed
downstream from the 3M Zeta Plus capsules. The capsules can be stacked on top of each other.
To reduce the risk of Injury from possible end user exposure associated with
degradation products released from the purifi cation media; and To reduce the
risk of product loss associated with a) chemical release from purifi cation media
and b) nullifi cation of Supplier's USP<88> Class VI compliance of fi lter capsule
components.
• The capsule must be subjected to a preconditioning fl ush prior to use.

4. Open both vents V4 and V5 if closed.
5. Open V1 slowly to begin fl uid fl ow.
6. When fl uid exits vent V5, close V5, and simultaneously open V2.
7. When fl uid exits vent V4, close V4 and simultaneously open V3.
8. The fl uid remaining on the upstream side may then be processed through the system:
a. Allow the system pressure to go to 0 bar (0 psig).
b. Close V1 and open V5 and reduce the system pressure to 0 bar (0 psig).
c. Apply 0.3 – 0.7 bar (5 – 10 psi) air or nitrogen gas pressure to V5. Using a non-surging pump or
regulated, low pressure, clean air supply, push process fl uid through the capsule. Do not allow
the inlet pressure to pulse or exceed 1.4 bar (20 psig).
d. Monitor the system outlet. When liquid fl ow is reduced to a trickle from the top capsule, reduce
the system pressure to 0 bar (0 psig) and then close V5 and V2.
e. Open V4 and apply 0.3 – 0.7 bar (5 – 10 psi) air or nitrogen gas pressure.
f. Monitor the system outlet. When liquid fl ow is reduced to a trickle, reduce the system pressure
to 0 bar (0 psig) and close V4.
