5 Fault finding

5. Fault finding
5.1 The plot is not within the specified tolerances.
5.1.1 Strip chart recorder
Cause:
The felt tip pens are bent.
Remedy:
Change the pens.
5.1.2 Strip chart and dotting recorders
Cause:
External influences/long term effects
Remedy:
Calibrate both zero and full scale deflection.
Your recorder has already been calibrated at our
works. The accuracy could be affected by
transportation (or other external influences) and long
term effects such as component drift. You can
recalibrate your recorder by following the instructions
below, (please always keep to your own national safety
standards).
For the calibration you need:
• Reference signal (e.g. from a calibrated voltage
source)
• 2 measurement cables
• 1 screwdriver (blade width 3 mm)
Procedure:
On the strip chart recorder each channel is calibrated
separately. On the dotting recorder only channel 1
needs calibrating. If all channels are connected to a 0
... 10 Volt signal then only this signal needs calibrating.
If other signals (e.g. current, 0 ... 1 V) are being used
then these should be calibrated to "0 ... 1 Volt", (1 Volt -
calibration: using full scale potentiometer "1 Volt")
