Evaluation of the plasma cutting zone
Before installing plasma cutting equipment, the user should assess the potential electromagnetic problems in the surrounding area. The following
must be taken into account:
(a) the presence above, below and beside the plasma cutting equipment of other power, control, signalling and telephone cables;
(b) radio and television receivers and transmitters;
(c) computers and other control equipment;
(d) critical safety equipment, for example, protection of industrial equipment;
(e) the health of neighbouring persons, for example, the use of pacemakers or hearing aids;
(f) the equipment used for calibration or measurement;
(g) the immunity of other materials in the environment.
The user must ensure that other equipment used in the environment is compatible. This may require additional protective measures;
(h) the time of day when plasma cutting or other activities are to be performed.
The size of the surrounding area to be taken into account depends on the structure of the building and other activities taking place there. The
surrounding area may extend beyond the boundaries of the facilities.
Evaluation of the plasma cutting system
In addition to zone assessment, the assessment of plasma cutting systems can be used to identify and resolve disturbances. Emission assessment
should include in situ measurements as specified in Article 10 of CISPR 11:2009. In situ measurements can also confirm the effectiveness of mitigation
measures.
RECOMMENDATION ON METHODS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC EMISSIONS REDUCTION
a. Public Power Supply: Plasma cutting equipment should be connected to the public power supply according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
If interference occurs, additional preventive measures such as filtering of the public power supply network may be required. Consideration should
be given to shielding the power cable in a metal conduit or equivalent of a permanently installed plasma cutting equipment. The electrical continuity
of the shielding must be ensured over its entire length. The shield must be connected to the plasma cutting current source to ensure good electrical
contact between the conduit and the plasma cutting current source envelope.
b. Plasma Cutting Equipment Maintenance: Plasma cutting equipment should be subject to routine maintenance as recommended by the
manufacturer. All access points, service doors and covers should be closed and properly locked when the plasma cutting equipment is in use. Plasma
cutting equipment should not be modified in any way, except for the modifications and adjustments mentioned in the manufacturer's instructions. In
particular, the arc spark gap of the arc initiation and stabilization devices should be adjusted and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations.
c. Welding cables: The cables should be as short as possible, placed close to each other near the ground or on the ground.
d. Equipotential bonding: Consideration should be given to bonding all metal objects in the surrounding area. However, metal objects connected to
the part to be cut increase the risk of electric shock to the operator if he touches both these metal elements and the electrode. The operator should
be isolated from such metal objects.
e. Grounding the part to be cut: When the part to be cut is not grounded for electrical safety or because of its size and location, as is the case,
for example, with ship hulls or steel structures in buildings, a connection connecting the part to ground may, in some cases and not systematically,
reduce emissions. Care should be taken to avoid grounding parts that could increase the risk of injury to users or damage other electrical equipment.
If necessary, the connection of the part to be cut to earth should be made directly, but in some countries where this direct connection is not allowed,
the connection should be made with an appropriate capacitor and chosen according to national regulations.
f. Protection and shielding: Selective protection and shielding of other cables and equipment in the surrounding area can limit disturbance
problems. Protection of the entire plasma cutting area can be considered for special applications.
TRANSPORT AND TRANSIT OF THE PLASMA CUTTING CURRENT SOURCE
The power source is equipped with upper handles for hand carrying. Be careful not to underestimate your weight. Handles are
not considered as a means of slinging.
Do not use the cables or torch to move the plasma cutting current source. It must be moved to the vertical position.
Do not allow the power source to pass over people or objects.
INSTALLATION
- Place the power source on a ground with a maximum inclination of 10°.
- Provide sufficient area to ventilate the plasma cutting current source and access the controls.
- Do not use in an environment with conductive metal dust.
- The power source must be protected from driving rain and not exposed to sunlight.
• The machine benefits from an IP23 protection index, which means:
- Protection against acess to dangerous parts from solid bodies of a ≥12.5mm diameter and,
- Protection against the rain inclined at 60° towards the verticale.
These devices can be used outside in accordance with the IP23 protection index.
The power supply, extension and welding cables must be completely unwound to avoid overheating.
The manufacturer does not accept responsilbity for damage resulting from incorrect and/or dangerous use of the machine .
