Inspection/Maintenance
Clean the cutter to aid inspection and improve control. Inspect the
cutter before each use for proper assembly, wear, damage or
other issues that could affect safe use.
Inspect the cutting edges of the tool. Dull or damaged cutting
tools increase required force and increase the risk of injury. If any
problems are found, do not use until corrected.
Lubricate points of relative motion with a light lubricating oil
monthly or as needed.
When changing tool bit, make sure the mounting area is clean
and free of debris and firmly secure the bit.
Set Up and Operation
Make sure all equipment is inspected and set up per its instruc-
tions.

Installing Oil Coolant Line
1. Attach the elbow to the carriage bypass pin.
2. Insert bypass pin into oil bypass hole on the underside of the
carriage. Orient elbow towards carriage handle. Use hammer
to securely tap pin into hole (Figure 3).
Coolant Nozzle
Coolant Nozzle

3. Attach coolant nozzle onto the elbow.
4. Direct the coolant nozzle towards the cutter so that oil
flow covers the cutting blade. Die head must be on carriage
and in UP position in order to direct oil thru coolant nozzle.
Remove coolant nozzle with the blade type cutter when not
in use.
Cutting Pipe
Refer to the 1224 Threading Machine Operator's Manual for
information on machine set-up and operation. Cutting should be
done at 36 rpm.
1. On 1224, pull sine bar out away from chuck and rotate the
latch down to hook it to the carriage (Figure 2).
2. Open cutter roll housing and tool holder. Lower the cutter
over the pipe and align the tool bit with the area to be cut.
Only use to cut pipe – do not use to face the end of the
pipe.
3. Tighten cutter handle until the rolls grip the pipe.
4. Direct oil coolant spout towards the tool bit.
To reduce oil inside the pipe, position the oil coolant noz-
zle to direct oil on the pipe near the rear roll (See Figure 1).
The pipe will carry oil around to the tool bit. Just before tool
bit breaks through the pipe wall, move oil nozzle away from
the pipe.
