Connection of the power supply
Power must be supplied to an input module FX5-C EX/D and an input/output
module FX5-C32ET/D.
These modules are equipped with two power connectors which are connected
in parallel inside the module. The second connector can be used to supply
power to the next extension module via a crossover cable as shown below.
There is no distinction between the entrance side and the exit side of the
power supply. Thus, cables can be connected to either of the connectors. How-
ever, since the lower connector is covered with a resin cover at shipment from
the factory, use the upper connector preferentially. Remove the resin cover
only when crossover wiring to a subsequent module is performed.
NOTE
To perform crossover wiring, supply the power from the preceding module to
the subsequent module. The power cannot be supplied from the subsequent
module to the preceding module.

CAUTION
Connect the DC power supply to the dedicated build-in power connector
of a module.
If an AC power supply is connected to a DC input/output terminal or DC
power supply terminal, the PLC will be damaged.
Use the power cable FX2NC-100BPCB to connect a FX5-C EX/D or FX5-C32ET/D
to 24 V DC.
Using the same power supply for each module and extension adapter is rec-
ommended.
For details of the power supply wiring, please refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5UC
Series User's Manual [Hardware].
Connection of input and output signals
For the connection of input and output signals to the modules connectors
conforming to MIL-C-83503 are used.

Input wiring
FX5-C EX/D and FX5-C32ET/D
The input modules FX5-C EX/D and the I/O module FX5-C32ET/D can be used
with sink switching devices only.
Sink input means that a contact wired to the input (X) or a sensor with NPN
open collector transistor output connects the input of the PLC with the nega-
tive pole of the power supply.

FX5-C EX/DS and FX5-C32ET/DSS
The input modules FX5-C EX/DD and the I/O module FX5-C32ET/DSS can be
used with sink or source switching devices. The decision is made by the differ-
ent connections of the COM terminal.
● Sink input wiring
Sink input means that a contact wired to the input (X) or a sensor with NPN
open collector transistor output connects the input of the PLC with the
negative pole of the power supply.
In the case of the sink input type, the COM terminal is connected to the pos-
itive pole of the power supply.

● Source input wiring
Source input means that a contact wired to the input (X) or a sensor with
PNP open collector transistor output connects the input of the PLC with the
positive pole of the power supply.
To select the source input type, connect the COM terminal of a FX5-C EX/
DD or FX5-C32ET/DSS to the negative pole of the power supply.
