3. Cooking with the RÖSLE kettle grill

3.1 Preparing the grill

3 Open all dampers and the lid before lighting the fire.
3 Tip: Remove accumulated ash as required from the bottom part of the grill (only after the coals are completely
extinguished). Charcoal requires oxygen to burn. Check that the vents are free of dirt.
3 Place the grill lighters on the charcoal grate and light them (Only use firelighters that comply with EN 1860-3!)
3 Do not begin grilling until the coals are covered with a light layer of ash. This takes about 30 – 45 minutes. Then
arrange the coals using long tongs or coal rake according to the desired method of grilling.
Tip: For an extra smoked fl avour you can add smoke chips or fresh herbs such as Rosemary, Thyme or Bay Leaves
to the embers. Lay the herbs or wood directly onto the coals when you begin grilling.
3.2 Direct method
With the direct method the food is cooked directly over the prepared coals. Food that requires less than 25 minutes
to cook is grilled with the direct method. To be cooked through evenly the food should be turned once halfway
through the cooking time. These are e. g. steaks, chops, kebabs and vegetables.
3 Open all dampers
3 Place the grill lighters on the charcoal grate and light them
3 Place the recommended amount of charcoal or briquettes in
the middle of the charcoal grate or in the RÖSLE chimney
starter (available separately)
3 Now light them. Leave the lid open until the charcoal has a
light covering of grey ash, this takes about 30 – 45 minutes.
3 Spread the hot coals using grill tongs or a coal rake evenly
over the charcoal grate
3 Place the cooking grate over the coals. Please use barbecue
mitts for this
3 Lay the food onto the cooking grate
3 Close the lid (with the lid ventilator and bowl vents open).
Under grilling instructions in this brochure you will find the
recommended cooking times.
If required the lid can be left open or even removed for this method of cooking. To do this remove, when the grill
is cold, the pin from the hinge on the lid and remove the connecting bolt from the hinges. Now replace the pin in
the bolt and keep in a safe place. The lid cannot be used again until the grill has cooled down again. If required
reattach the lid to the cold grill.
Direct method with fl ip grate (standard accessory with the 50-cm kettle grill)
Turn the grate so that the depression is in the centre and light the
recommended amount of coals as described above using grill fi re-
lighter cubes. Put the coals into the depression in the centre of the
grill grate.
