signals indicate a field strength which originates from a
transmitter which is far away. They can, however, also be caused
by the scattering signal of a transmitter (bell curve) which are of
no consequence for the operation of the remote control.
If the distance to other transmitters is too short, the scanner
might receive "mixed signals", and because of this wrongly report
occupied channels. Such mixed signals (which the experts refer
to as ICI = inter-channel interference) always result when at least
two transmitters which are not too far apart from each other are
switched on at the same time.
As an example, we assume that two transmitters operate on
channels 77 and 79 respectively and are approximately 3 m apart
from each other. The two transmitters now generate interference
signals (inter-channel interference products) on the channels 75
and 81 (above and below the two channels in use at the same
distance as the channels are from each other). If one is too close
to the two transmitters during transmission, these "virtual"
channels are received and indicated. Such a situation is shown in
figure 7:
In the example, the "virtual" channels with a lower field strength
are shown as shorter bars, but depending on the constellation of
the transmitters with respect to each other, it is also possible for
them to be of full height. If a distance of at least 10 m is
maintained from the two transmitters, the virtual channels will
already be so attenuated that the scanner will not receive them
any longer. In this case, only the actually existing transmitters are
indicated.

During the scanning operation you, being the user, must observe
the entire environment and be certain that no transmitter is
being operated at some distant location or that a source of
interference exists which would lead to a low, assumed
negligible, field strength. Should this be the case, there is the
danger when flying towards the source of the interference signal
that as the distance from your transmitter increases this signal (in
contrast to the virtual channels (ICI) or neighbouring channels
within a frequency spectrum of a close-by, strong transmitter)
will become more intensive, and that interference will occur
when the ratio between the wanted signal and the interference
signal becomes worse.

The channel check safety function is also automatically activated
by the scanner. The channel check function can only be
deactivated by removing the scanner module.

The transmitter antenna is used as a reception antenna during
the channel check procedure. For this reason, the transmitter
antenna must be fully extended before switching on the
transmitter in order to prevent incorrect measurements and
therefore possible incorrect switching-on when a channel is
already occupied.

way prevented.
If the channel is occupied or experiences interference, a warning
sound is generated.
The following display may e.g. appear (figure 8):
The desired channel 79 with the frequency 35.190 MHz is
occupied or blocked by interference. The transmitter is not
activated on this channel and no HF signal is being transmitted.
The scanning operation can be activated (
pressing any menu direct access key or the "enter" key.
As in the case of a low measured field strength the scanner
cannot distinguish whether it is a virtual channel (ICI) or the
neighbouring channels of a close-by strong transmitter or a
channel actually occupied by a remote external transmitter or an
interference signal, the set channel will be reported as being
occupied, even if only a low field strength is measured.
If you as the user, after inspecting the scanner result and the
environment, reach the conclusion that the channel is free, the
HF transmission can be activated by pressing the digital
adjustment activation key ("HF ON").
By means of the synthesizer HF module HFM-S, the ROYALevo
transmitter can be rapidly and easily switched to a different
frequency.

In order to prevent faulty measurements and interference with
transmitters close to the scanner, a distance of approx. 10 m
should be maintained from other transmitters during scanning. In
order to minimise interference between transmitters, the distance
between the transmitters should be no less than 4 m.

In order to exclude the interference from nearby transmitters on
the scanner, no other transmitter should be switched on in a
range of at least 100 m. Only in this way is it possible to detect
possible occupied channels outside your own location.
