ABOUT POLY-M
Dear Poly-M friends,
Engineer Anton Meyer developed the first Poly-M blocks over 35 years ago. Right from the start, the Poly-M plug-in system
was a hit with children and teachers throughout the world – after all, besides being fun to build with, it also promotes a
child's skills.
The creativity and imagination that the children develop when playing is fascinating time and time again. From toddlers to
schoolchildren, every child plays with the Poly-M blocks in a completely individual way.
When developing the many new blocks that were added over these years, high quality and safety were always our central
concerns. All Poly-M blocks are manufactured in Germany according to international safety standards and are tested regularly
by an independent testing institute.
The Poly-M team hopes you have fun with the creative Poly-M plug-in system.
WHO IS THE MATERIAL FOR/AIMED AT?
In nursery, the children learn fundamental skills and abilities. These can be developed optimally with various learning and
playing materials. So, might a child who likes to build and who thus gains experience with shapes and balance possibly be-
come an architect later on?! Might another child who creates a small role play perhaps already be practising for a role as a
mother or father?! When children play, they do so with a certain seriousness and their game should also be taken seriously.
It is a way of coming closer to the world, recording it, transforming it, gaining experience and processing feelings. During this
time, the children can concern themselves with things that interest them personally and they can take time to let their creati-
vity and imagination run wild. Thanks to the magic appeal of Poly-M blocks, children are thus encouraged to investigate their
environment through the blocks, work independently and create something as part of a group. This makes the material ideal
for nurseries, as children can build something individually or in a group and thus develop their social skills.
WHY IS THE MATERIAL SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?
With the flexible blocks from Poly-M, the focus lies on playing as an enjoyable activity. While the child plays, he/she tests
fundamental physical laws, gains a feel for the principle of gravity, and develops fine motor skills, with fun always taking
priority. There are seemingly endless possibilities for imaginative building here – as no matter whether round or square,
high or low, small or large constructions – the blocks can be used to create all of these in a variety of ways. Poly-M blocks are
colourfast and flexible and can even be washed at 40 degrees. What's more, the material can be used to address various
educational areas that are fundamental for the development of children and are also learned here completely incidentally
while having fun playing!
WHICH EDUCATIONAL AREAS DOES THE MATERIAL ADDRESS?
Mathematics:
The field of mathematics is addressed by Poly-M in many ways. The blocks can thus be used to make basic geometric shapes
such as squares, cuboids, triangles, circles, parallelograms, and much more, and simple mathematical operations are perfor-
med. The children gain an initial understanding of set theory (more, less, the same), can determine lengths (short, long, the
same) and differentiate between proportions (large, small, the same). A basic need that everyone has is sorting and clas-
sifying. Rows are formed, colours and lengths are grouped in a uniform manner and regular patterns created. Spatial percepti-
on is also promoted with the Poly-M blocks, especially when complex constructions are built and replicated.
Language:
"One cannot not communicate" psychologist Paul Watzlawick once said and he was completely correct, as communication
can take place with the aid of a wide range of things – including non-verbal. Everyone can express themselves through body
language, facial expressions and even through images and constructions. In addition, Poly-M blocks can be used to commu-
nicate verbally, discuss, argue, or present one's own viewpoint. Whole stories can thus be created and told, meaning that
the children are always communicating with each other. This is also a particular advantage for children who do not speak the
same language.
