Respirators help protect against certain airborne contaminants. Misuse may result in sickness or death. For correct use, consult
supervisor and User Instructions, or call 3M in U.S.A., 1-800-243-4630. In Canada, call Technical Service at 1-800-267-4414.
Important information is provided in the User Instructions for 3M™ Half Facepiece Respirators 6000 Series and the filters approved for use with the
facepiece. Failure to follow User Instructions for these products may result in sickness or death.
Use For
The 3M™ Reusable Respirator Exhalation Valve Filter (EVF) 604 can be used with the 6000 Series half facepiece to help filter the exhaled breath
of the wearer.
This product contains no components made from natural rubber latex.
Inspection
Inspect the Exhalation Valve Filter prior to use.
1. Inspect the filter housing and filter media for any visible damage.
2. Ensure the connector tabs and hooks on the back of the EVF are not damaged.
3. Ensure gasket is in place and in good condition.
Do not use if the EVF is damaged. The EVF has no replaceable components. If components are lost or damaged the EVF should be replaced.
Installation and Removal
1. Ensure the valve cover of the 6000 Series facepiece is clean, uncontaminated and undamaged. The valve cover is on the front of the respirator and
has a large 3M logo. There are four breathing slots surrounding the logo (Fig. 1).
2. Align the connector tabs and hooks on the back of the EVF with the breathing slots of the valve cover. Tip: Installing the EVF with either hook at the
top position may help with proper alignment of the EVF (Fig. 2).
3. Press the EVF onto the valve cover. The EVF should sit evenly on the valve cover (Fig. 3).
4. If the EVF is not seated evenly on the valve cover, as shown in Fig. 4, repeat steps #2 & #3.
5. Slowly rotate the EVF clockwise until rotation stops. Pull outward lightly on the EVF to confirm a complete connection (Fig. 5).
6. To remove, rotate the EVF counterclockwise until it disengages and comes free (Fig. 6).

Donning Respirator
Refer to the "Fitting Instructions" section of the 3M Half Facepiece Respirator 6000 Series User Instructions. Follow the steps for donning the
respirator.
Seal Checks
Positive Pressure Seal Check
1. Place the palm of your hand over the center of the EVF and exhale gently. If facepiece bulges slightly and no air leaks are detected between your
face and the facepiece, a proper seal has been obtained.
2. If faceseal air leakage is detected, reposition respirator on your face and/or readjust tension of the elastic straps to eliminate leakage.
3. Repeat above steps until a proper seal is obtained.
If you CANNOT achieve a proper seal, DO NOT enter contaminated area. See your supervisor.
Negative Pressure Seal Check
Refer to the "User Seal Checks" section of the 3M Half Facepiece Respirator 6000 Series User Instructions. Follow the "Negative Pressure Seal Check"
instructions for the specific filter being used.
If you CANNOT achieve a proper seal, DO NOT enter contaminated area. See your supervisor.
Use Limitations
Do not alter, abuse or misuse the EVF. The EVF has no replaceable components. If components are lost or damaged the EVF should be replaced.
Time Use Limitations
If the EVF becomes damaged, the filter media becomes soiled, or breathing becomes difficult, leave the contaminated area immediately and
replace the EVF.
Cleaning
The hard-plastic case of the EVF can be wiped down for cleaning and disinfection using a clean damp cloth soaked in cleaning and disinfecting
solution. For disinfecting solution, apply until visibly wet for the appropriate contact time and then remove the disinfecting solution with a clean,
water-soaked cloth and air dry. Do not allow the cleaning or disinfecting solution to reach the internal filter media and do not submerge the EVF in
any liquid. Utilize the same cleaning and disinfection solutions as recommended for 3M Half Facepiece Respirator 6000 Series. Refer to 3M Technical
Bulletin "Cleaning and Disinfecting 3M Reusable Elastomeric Half and Full Facepiece Respirators Following Potential Exposure to Coronaviruses" for
disinfectant compatibility information.
Storage Conditions and Shelf Life
Before use, store EVFs in the original packaging, away from contaminated areas, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture and
damaging chemicals. When stored in accordance with temperature and humidity conditions specified below, the EVF may be used until the
expiration date specified on packaging. Always inspect product and conduct a user seal check before use as specified in the respirator User
Instructions. If you cannot achieve a proper seal, do not enter the contaminated area. See your supervisor.
