BEFORE USING THE BICYCLE
OPERATION OF KNOBS HANDLE
Some bikes now come with a gear mechanism called Grip Shift. built into the handles and knobs that
do not use separate handles. The mechanism is built inside the handle, placed between the thumb and
forefinger. To select a lower gear, turn right fist toward you to engage a larger rear sprocket. You can
make changes one at a time, moving with a click of the Grip Shift. or multiple changes to by moving it
continuously. Turning the left handle forward in the opposite direction to you, you can choose a smaller
plate. To select a higher gear, turn the right fist forward in the opposite direction or the other to engage
a smaller rear sprocket. To engage a larger front plate, turn the left fist toward you. Simple gear changes
can be made by turning one click at a time, and multiple gear changes with a larger rotation.

THUMB SHIFTERS (MOUNTED ON TOP)
Some mountain bikes are equipped with shift lever mounted on top of the handlebar that are operated
with the thumb. To select a lower and lighter gear, switch to a larger rear sprocket and a smaller front
plate. Pull back the left shifter to move the front derailleur and pull the right shifter forward to move the
rear derailleur. To select a higher and heavier gear, switch to a smaller rear sprocket and a larger dish.
Push the left shifter forward to the front derailleur and pull the right shifter back to the rear derailleur.
