The engine coolant, as delivered from Allmand, is a 50/50 mix
of ethylene glycol and low mineral content, low corrosive, de-
ionized water. This mix provides protection from freezing to
-33.5° F (-36.4° C).
When adding or replacing engine coolant, use an ethylene
glycol based heavy duty engine coolant that meets ASTM
D6210. Coolant may be either prediluted (pre-mixed 50/50
with water), or coolant concentrate which is then mixed 50%
by volume with low mineral content, low corrosive, de-ionized
water.
Never add coolant concentrate alone or water alone. Always
pre-mix concentrate and water prior to adding to the cooling
system.
When ambient temperatures are expected to drop below -29°
F (-34° C), ethylene glycol coolant concentrate mixed 60% by
volume may be used. See the following table for freezing and
boiling protection information.

Do not use ethylene glycol coolant in concentrations of
greater than 60%. Greater concentrations result in less
freezing and boiling protection. 100% ethylene glycol coolant
will freeze at -9° F (-23° C).
Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCA's) that are part
of the coolant provided by Allmand are depleted during
engine operation. These additives must be replaced
periodically. SCA's must be added at the proper
concentration. Overconcentration of SCA's can cause the
inhibitors to drop out of solution, and be detrimental to the
cooling system's performance.
Have the coolant analyzed regularly to determine when it is
necessary to add SCA's.

Engine Maintenance

See the engine operator's manual for engine maintenance
items.
Remove Collected Fuel
Do a check of the bottom of the combustion chamber for any
collected fuel. If collected fuel is present, remove the fuel from
the combustion chamber before starting the heater unit.
To remove collected fuel:
1. Remove the hardware (A, Figure 23) fastening the
combustion chamber shroud to the heater trailer
frame. Remove the shroud.

2. Remove the screws (B, Figure 24) fastening the air outlet
106° C (223° F)
cone (A) to the heater unit. Remove the air outlet cone.
111° C (232° F)
3. Put an approved container under the heater unit to catch
collected fuel.
4. Remove the screws that fasten the curved plate (C,
Figure 24) to the bottom of the combustion chamber.
Remove the plate and gasket.
5. Let any collected fuel drain out of the opening and into
the container. After fuel has stopped draining, wait
20 minutes for any remaining fuel in the combustion
chamber to evaporate.
6. Install the curved plate and gasket using the screws
removed in Step 3. Use a new gasket if the original
gasket is worn or damaged.
7. Install the air outlet cone to the heater unit using the
screws removed in Step 2.
8. Install the combustion chamber shroud to the heater
trailer frame using the hardware removed in Step 1.
