1. Lower Muffler – Lower muffler by removing the rubber hangers (4 or 5 depending on year). NOTE: A spray a lubricant on rubber hangers makes them slide off metal
pins more easily. NOTE: Be careful that exhaust is supported before removing rubber hangers.
2. Remove Plugs – Remove the rubber plugs from the existing holes in the vehicle frame, (2 or 3 depending on year) each side.
3. Install Fasteners – NOTE: On some vehicles, the holes may need to be enlarged prior to the installation of the fasteners. On the rear most hole use a ½ inch drill bit to
enlarge the hole. On the forward most hole use a 1/4 inch drill bit and a file to enlarge the hole (see figure 4).
Feed the coiled end of pull wire through the rearmost hole and out the forward most hole, each side. Attach items 1 and 2 to pull wire and pull fasteners through the
frame and into rear holes (see figure 2). Then attach items 1 and 2 to the pull wire, using the reverse fish wire method, install fasteners into the forward most hole, each
side, (see figure 3).
4. Install Hitch – Gently raise hitch into position being careful not to push the fasteners into the frame. Install items 3 thru 6 onto the fasteners installed in step 3. NOTE:
Item 6 is installed in-between the vehicle frame and hitch, forward hole only.
5. Torque Fasteners – Torque all 7/16 fasteners to 50 Ft-Lb (68 n-m)
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
6. Raise Muffler – Raise muffler back into position and reattach rubber hangers removed from step 1.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
