• Lithium-ion batteries are getting
smaller and smaller and capacity
is increased at the same time. This
results in a battery of an ideal size
with a high power level. However, it
also increases the risk of thermal
instability* due to internal short
circuits.
Increased use of lithium-ion
batteries with the risk of thermal
instability has led to more strin-
gent rules in the transport indu-
stry, especially in air transport
with tightened restrictions on the
quantity, handling and storage of
products with lithium-ion batte-
ries. Despite a high level of safety
required when using, a minimal
residual risk of thermal instability
cannot be ruled out.
The battery manufacturer only
uses tested cell types from appro-
ved manufacturers with good track
records. The battery pack is UL
authorized (see ETL labels on
page 59). Independent internatio-
nal testing has confirmed that the
batteries are state of the art.
Nevertheless, the battery manu-
facturer recommends that the
customer conducts a risk analysis.
In particular, you must ensure that
the batteries don't come into
contact with flammable materials.
Because there is no increased risk
of thermal instability compared to
other lithium-ion cells, the battery
manufacturer rules out any liability
for incidents caused by the nature
of lithium-ion batteries. If a
lithium-ion battery in a Wilkhahn
product is found to be faulty within
the statutory guarantee period,
Wilkhahn will provide the customer
with a new one.
Wilkhahn rejects all other legal
remedies. Wilkhahn will not be
liable under any circumstances for
indirect criminal or consequential
damages resulting from an inci-
dent relating to the inherent risk of
thermal instability in the lithium-
ion cell and its use in Wilkhahn
products. In addition, Wilkhahn
rules out liability for any loss of
profits, failure to achieve expected
savings, any entitlement vis à vis
our customer asserted by third
parties or any other commercial
loss of any kind, even if Wilkhahn
has been advised of the possibility
of such damage or loss.
* Thermal instability means an
overheating of the cells, which in
very rare cases can lead to fire
breaking out and smoke forming.
