5. OPERATION AND USE
WARNING!
Before proceeding with starting up operations, the following guidelines must be adhered to:
- Check connections of piping lips.
- Ensure the lubricant oil is as required and in sufficient amount.
- Ensure conformity of electrical connections and relevant protection devices (where applicable).
- Ensure all protection devices of rotating parts are correctly installed.
- Ensure the system is ready for starting up.
WARNING!
It is strictly forbidden to run the pump with an adequate protection on the
rotating parts, in particular the joint (joint cover casing).
5.1 STARTING UP/STOPPING
In case of an excessive amount of sand, close the delivery valves to obtain 40 g/m3
Close the delivery valve all the way.
Fully open all auxiliary connections (cooling liquid). Start the motor and check the
mechanical operation. The pump should only be started against closed pressing
gate. When the motor has reached the working speed, check that the pump has
reached maximum pressure, slowly open the delivery valve until reaching the ra-
ting head. Check the amount of sand in the water and in case of an excessive
amount, close the delivery valves to obtain 40 g/m3 check and adjust the flow of
cooling liquid.
WARNING!
Avoid operating the pump for a long time with the pressing gate valve clo-
sed. Prolonged operation with delivery valve closed causes overheating
which may damage the pump. Pump operation must be noiseless and vi-
bration-less, the pump must not run dry.
If the pump is equipped with mechanical seal, it does not require monito-
ring as it has no leaks.
If the pump is fitted with gland packing, it should drip slightly during opera-
tion. The gland box must be only slightly tightened (for the adjustment see
point 5.3 controls and operations after start-up).
With the pump running at rated speed, also ensure maximum absorption of
the unit does not exceed the value specified on the plate.
Also ensure that the maximum absorption of the unit does not exceed the
value specified on the plate. With the pump at rated speed, it is necessary
to calibrate the thermal relay according to the unit absorption.
STOP
The pump must be stopped by powering off the motor. Vertical pumps may be
stopped with the adjustment valve either open or closed; if a non-return valve is
not installed on the delivery pipe, we recommend closing the adjustment valve
before stopping the machine, in order to protect it from pressure shock.
In case of long stops, periodically check that the pump runs freely.

N.B.: After start-up, check the
stuffing box so as to let about 10
drops of water pass per minute
to allow the shaft lubrication
