The 120 and 150-mm diameter centring devices can be reconstructed
from the 85-mm one by attaching the legs J of the larger diameter
centring device to the slots I of the next largest diameter device (Fig.
12 and 13).
It is advisable to use the centering devices d.85 for rolling tapes up to
1.2 mm thickness and the centering devices d.150 for tapes of 2 mm.
For gluing large reels using the DV25P motorised roller feeder and large
reel support (optional accessories), you need to make a D. 250 mm solid
wood centring device which fi ts onto the shaft of the roller receiver and
which has a slot to hold it, as shown in (Fig. 17).
If the internal diameter of the reel is greater than the centring devices
supplied with the machine, you will need to make a solid wood centring
device of the required measurement.
Disposable cardboard rings are available for winding reels:
25.45.659 Bag of 25 cardboard rings d. 85
25.45.660 Bag of 25 cardboard rings d. 150
To wind the tape onto a disposable ring, you must fi rst attach it to the
machine's plastic ring using adhesive tape.
8. CONNECTING THE MACHINE
WARNING! Before plugging in the machine, make sure that the power
supply voltage is the same as that shown on the specifi cations plate.
The machine must be connected using the mains lead supplied to an
earthed 220-240 V, single-phase mains supply, with a minimum capacity
of 15 A and fi tted with the required safety devices.
9. DESCRIPTION OF CONTROLS
Motor on-off switch (A) (Fig. 3). The motor does not start turning as soon
as the switch is in the on position; it only comes on when the glue is hot
and liquefi ed, at which point the switch lights up.
On-off switch (B) (Fig. 3) for the glue-heating elements, with operating
indicator light that turns off automatically when the working temperature
is reached.
Temperature regulator (C) (Fig. 3), which permits the glue temperature
to be regulated.
Glue temperature indicator thermometer (R) (Fig. 3).
10. ADJUSTING THE PRE-GLUER WHILE TURNED OFF
Adjusting the edge pitch thickness
The machine is set for 0.4-mm edges at the factory. If glue is to be
applied to thicker edges, the press assembly should be adjusted in the
following way:
First of all ensure that the press assembly is in the working position
with pressure roller (G) (Fig. 5) in its closest position to the gluing roller
(K) (Fig. 5). If not in this position, just unlock it by pulling knob (J) while
holding the press assembly (I) with the other hand (Fig. 5) so that it does
not accidentally knock the gluing roller (K) (Fig. 5) on lifting automatically
to the working position.
Next, turn screw (E) (Fig. 4) clockwise until the required increase in
pitch thickness is obtained.
Once adjusted, the pitch between the gluing roller (K) and pressure
roller (G) (Fig. 5) must be slightly less than the thickness of the edge,
so that it can be drawn by the rollers. For edges with a thickness of 2
mm and above, we recommend setting the pitch to 1 mm less than the
thickness of the edge.
Under no circumstances must the gluing roller (K) and the pressure
roller (G) (Fig. 5) come into contact, as this would get dirty with glue
and cause it to deteriorate prematurely over time.
Adjusting the edge guide
The area in which the edge enters the machine is established by the
position of the adjustable guide (M) (Fig. 4) and is held in place by knob
(L). This guide is adjusted in the factory to receive the edge from the
loader perfectly aligned.
Preparing the Loader
Loosen the knobs (L and R), and remove the reel-holder covers (O
and Q) (Fig. 14).
Prepare the reel-centring device (M) (Fig. 14) with the appropriate
diameter, (Fig. 9, 10 and 11) and insert it in the reel-holder (B1) (Fig.
14) (see section 7).
Place the edge roll (O) (Fig. 14) in the centring device (M) (Fig. 14).
Pass the edge under the retainer (T) (Fig. 15) and the retainer rod (V)
(Fig. 15) to the other side of the pressure roller (C1) (Fig. 15).
Attach the reel-holder cover (Q) (Fig. 14), leaving a space of 1 or 2 mm,
to prevent the reel getting trapped in the loader.
Loading the glue
Lift lid (Q) (Fig. 3) and fi ll the tank with approximately ½ kg of glue.
It is recommended that the glue be loaded in small amounts in order to
reduce its melting time.
The tank has a capacity for up to 2 kg of glue, but the machine requi-
res 40-60 minutes to melt it; therefore it is recommended that it only
be fi lled completely when gluing large amounts where the load will be
used in one cycle.
Glue that is melted and solidifi ed various time loses a great deal of
its properties. For this reason only a little more than the amount to be
consumed in the cycle should be loaded.
For gluing rigid 2 or 3-mm thick tape, the 3 rods (H1) (Fig. 14) must be
attached to prevent premature unwinding of the reel.
11. ADJUSTING THE PRE-GLUER WHILE TURNED ON
WARNING! To make the following adjustments, the machine must be
connected to the mains, the switches (A) and (B) (Fig. 3) turned on
and the adjustments explained in the previous section (Section 10)
already made.
Adjusting the temperature
The temperature is adjusted using the regulator (C) (Fig. 3), according
to the guidelines in the following table:
Regulator in Pos. 3
Regulator in Pos. 3.5
Regulator in Pos. 4
Regulator in Pos. 4.5
On starting, set the regulator (C) (Fig. 3) to position 4.5 to speed up
the glue melting process to the maximum. After 7-9 minutes the motor
will start to turn; check the temperature marked on the thermometer (R)
(Fig. 3) and adjust it with regulator (C) to the temperature given by the
manufacturer for the glue being used.
For gluing PVC edges, we recommend working with the lowest possible
temperature, especially with thin edges.
For better machine performance, do not start gluing until 10 minutes
after the above temperature adjustment.
Regulating the fl ow of glue
The amount of glue the machine spreads on the edge is set in the factory
and should not be adjusted again on changing the thickness or
width of the edge. If, due to an exceptional problem with the glue, it
needs to be adjusted, it can be changed be adjusting rollers (P and O)
(Fig. 6) with the aid of rod (N) in the following way:
To increase the amount of glue, turn the measuring roller (O) (Fig. 6)
anti-clockwise to increase the fl ow rate out of the tank.
If the glue overfl ows at the opposite side, turn the retaining roller (P)
(Fig. 6) clockwise to open the entry fl ow.
To reduce the amount of glue, carry out the same process in reverse,
i.e. reduce the fl ow of the measuring roller (O) (Fig. 6), as well as the
retaining roller (P) (Fig. 6), if necessary.
Rollers (O) and (P) (Fig. 6) should never touch the gluing roller (K)
(Fig. 6).
12. OPERATING AND STOPPING THE MACHINE
Preparing the Receiving Reel-holder
First unwind 1.5 or 2 m of the tape from reel P (Fig. 14) to carry out
this preparation.
Once the adjustments mentioned in sections 6, 10 and 11 have been
made and the working temperature reached and maintained for 10
minutes, check that the gluing roller (K) (Fig. 5) is well impregnated
with glue, release the press assembly by pulling knob (J) (Fig. 5), while
holding the press assembly (I) with the other hand, so that it does not
accidentally knock the gluing roller (K) (Fig. 5) on lifting automatically
to the working position, and start gluing.
When the unwound section has been glued, stop the process without
stopping the machine, by moving the press assembly (I) (Fig. 7) down
until it locks.
When the glued edge has cooled down, take it out backwards and place
it once again below the rod (V) (Fig. 5) between the pivots (N) (Fig. 14
and 15) and through the tape-pulling cartridge (J1) (Fig. 15).
Stick the end of the glued edge (W) (Fig. 15) to the reel-centring device
(M) (Fig. 15) with a piece of adhesive paper, attach the reel-holder
cover (O) (Fig. 14) 1 or 2 mm from the edge, and hold it in place with
the knob (L) (Fig. 14).
Wind the glued tape until its end matches up with the gluing roller K
(Fig. 5). The process can now be restarted by pulling knob J (Fig. 5)
to release the press assembly, while holding it with the other hand to
prevent it knocking the gluing roller K (Fig. 5).
