Application
Initial application and adjustment of the OAsys CartiCare knee
brace, as well as all subsequent adjustments to the Acculign™
Slide Bar, should be performed by a healthcare provider.
1 Loosen the hex screws securing the Acculign Slide Bar [Figure
1].
2 Unfasten all quick release buckles.
3 With leg bent at 45°, place brace over knee, with lateral arms
resting on outside (buckle side) of leg, so bottom of condylar
pads are aligned with base of knee cap.
4 Flex and extend leg until slide bar adjusts to the natural
alignment of the leg.
5 Beginning with the strap immediately below the knee, loosen
the Velcro™ tab closest to the quick release buckle, fasten the
buckle and re-tighten the strap. Be sure the strap is secured
above the calf muscle to aid in the suspension of the brace.
Repeat the above steps for the bottom strap [Figure 2].
6 Repeat the same procedure for the strap immediately above
the knee, followed by the top strap [Figure 3].
7 Adjust the Acculign Slide Bar to achieve the desired amount of
unloading [Figure 4]. The slide bar has a lettered scale and may
be moved in either direction to increase or decrease the amount
of varus or valgus force on the leg. The lettered scale does not
relate to degrees of unloading. Rather, each letter corresponds
to approximately 2 1/2°. All adjustments should be determined
by a healthcare provider, in accordance with the patient's
comfort level. Each time the brace is adjusted, the healthcare
provider should note the letter for a record of progression.
8 Tighten hex screws to secure Acculign Slide Bar.
NOTE: #1, 4, 7 and 8 only apply when making adjustments to
the Acculign slide bar.
Padding Adjustments
To narrow the fit at the knee joint, Velcro™ shims (provided) can
be installed as follows:
1 Remove the gel pad.
2 Attach shim to the Velcro™ fastener on which the gel pad was
previously seated [Figure 5].
3 Replace the gel pad on top of the shim [Figure 6].
4 Repeat for other side, if necessary.t
To widen the fit at the knee joint, the installed gel pads can be
removed and replaced with thinner pads (provided).
Three additional sets of padding are included with your OAsys
