INSTALLATION TIP: Be careful when removing existing bumper bolts, when using an impact the bolt could be sheared.
NOTE: 2001 and later models will not require the drilling of holes in frame (step #4). Use existing holes as shown.
1.
Remove the two bumper bolts closest to the back of the vehicle (one per side).
2.
Thread bolt leader (3) onto carriage bolt (5) and insert bolt leader through hole in spacer (2). Fish bolt leader (3) through access in end of frame and down
through slotted hole closest to bumper. Carefully pull on bolt leader until bolt assembly is in position. Remove bolt leader. Repeat for the opposite side.
Refer to "Access to Enclosed Frame" on instruction sheet.
3.
Lift hitch into position and being careful not to push bolts back into frame channel, loosely attach hitch to frame using conical washer and nuts(8)&(6).
4.
Using remaining holes in frame bracket as a drill guide, drill 1/2" dia holes in bottom of frame (two each side).
5.
Thread bolt leader (3) onto carriage bolt (5) and insert bolt leader through hole in spacer (2). As in step 1, fish bolt leader through access in end of frame
and down through bolt hole. Carefully pull on bolt leader until bolt assembly is in position. Install conical washer and nuts (8)&(6). Repeat for remaining
hardware.
6.
Tighten all bolts.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to
prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working
beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
