PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

Once the initial fitting is complete, the patient should be instructed to remove and put on the brace independently,
preferably in front of a mirror the first few times. Ensuring the correct don/doff procedure at home is essential for
adequate fit, comfort and, most importantly, compliance.
Emphasis should be made on the importance of external button hook clipping for doffing. The patient should also
be instructed how to tighten and loosen the compression system while at home. Simply have them slip their
thumbs in the compression system handles and detach them from the belt. At this point the handles can be pulled
for a tighter fit or relaxed for a looser fit.
CAUTION: The compression system should not be over-tightened to the point where it causes discomfort or
difficulty breathing. For sitting, the patient may find it desirable to slightly loosen the compression system.
WARNING: If brace causes discomfort or irritation, the healthcare provider should be contacted for further
instructions.
BRACE MAINTENANCE
The Miami Lumbar Posteo brace is designed for minimum maintenance and care:
• Hand-wash in lukewarm (30 °C) water using mild soap, and rinse thoroughly.
• Air dry flat.
• Do not machine wash or place in tumble dryer.
