989803150041/989803150051 FR3 3-LEAD ECG CABLE

DESCRIPTION AND INTENDED USE

The 989803150041/989803150051 FR3 3-Lead ECG Cable ("3-Lead Cable") is designed for use only
with the Philips HeartStart FR3 ECG model automated external defibrillator with version PR2.0 or
higher software. At the discretion of a responder trained in its use, the optional FR3 3-Lead ECG Cable
can be connected to the FR3 ECG model to provide a non-diagnostic ECG display of the heart rhythm
of a patient who is responsive and breathing normally but at risk of cardiac distress. The system is
intended for use on a conscious or breathing patient, regardless of age, for attended patient monitoring.
The responder can select display of lead vectors I, II, or III. While connected to the 3-Lead Cable, the
defibrillator's shock capability is disabled, but the FR3 continues to evaluate the patient's ECG. In
addition, the FR3 alerts the responder to check the patient if the heart rate is less than 30 BPM or if the
heart rhythm may benefit from a defibrillation shock. If the patient's rhythm or status changes, the
responder can attend to the patient, as appropriate.
CAUTION: Do not use the 3-Lead Cable with other defibrillators or adapters, as this may damage
the cable. If the 3-Lead Cable is subjected to a defibrillation shock, test the cable as described in
the "TROUBLESHOOTING" section of this manual.
Even if the FR3 (861389) is configured for displaying only text
in AED mode, the 3-Lead mode is automatically enabled
when the 3-Lead Cable is inserted. While connected to the 3-
Lead Cable, the defibrillator's shock capability is disabled, but
the FR3 continues to evaluate the patient's ECG. The 3-Lead
Cable is available in two models and uses standard ECG
electrodes. Model 989803150041 uses AAMI label and color
convention, and model 989803150051 uses IEC label and
*
color convention.
The 3-Lead Cable consists of a cable with a connector (A) at
one end and a molded yoke (B) at the other, with three
permanently attached patient lead wires (C). Each lead wire
terminates in a snap electrode connector (D) for attaching a
disposable ECG electrode. See Figure 1.
To use the 3-Lead Cable, insert the connector into the FR3's pads
connector port (E). See Figure 2.
The 3-Lead Cable is reusable and contains no natural latex. It is shipped
with a storage pouch that clips onto the handle of any FR3 carry case.
See the FR3 Instructions for Administrators for the 3-Lead Cable
specifications and approved cleaning methods.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

1. Open the FR3 case and turn on the FR3. If stored in an FR3 carry
case and the Auto-On feature is enabled, the FR3 automatically turns
on when you open the case.
2. If the patient is an infant or child under 8 years old or 55 lb (25 kg),
insert the Infant/Child Key, if available, into the FR3's Infant/Child Key
port.
* The circuitry in the 3-Lead Cable identifies it to the FR3 as the AAMI or IEC version.
