Colour Camera
GB
1 Applications
This colour camera in a dome housing is especially
designed for use in video surveillance systems
(CCTV). It is equipped with a variable focus lens and
has an automatic electronic shutter, an iris control, a
backlight compensation, and an automatic white
balance. The backlight compensation and the auto-
matic white balance can be switched off separately.
For the acoustic surveillance a microphone (6) is inte-
grated in the base.
2 Safety Notes
The camera corresponds to the directive for electro-
magnetic compatibility 89/336/EEC.
The camera is only suitable for indoor use. Protect it
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0– 40 °C).
Do not touch the lenses of the lens assembly with
your fingers and only use specific cleaning agents
for optical lenses for cleaning.
For cleaning of the housing only use a dry, soft cloth,
by no means chemicals or water.
No guarantee claims for the camera and no liability
for any resulting personal damage or material dam-
age will be accepted if the camera is used for other
purposes than originally intended, if it is not connect-
ed correctly, or not repaired in an expert way.
If the camera is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling plant
for a disposal which is not harmful to the
environment.
3 Operation
3.1 Mounting
1) To open the housing, turn the dome (7) counter-
clockwise up to the stop, as indicated in fig. 2, and
then pull it off from the base (5) in downward direc-
tion.
2) Guide the plug (1) of the connection cable from the
mounting side through the opening of the base,
through which the cable of the microphone (6) is
led, and connect it to the pin socket (9) on the PCB
at the rear side of the camera module so that it fits
precisely.
3) Tightly screw the housing base (5) via its three
mounting holes to the ceiling or to a wall.

3.2 Electrical connection

1) Connect the BNC inline jack (4) via a 75 Ω coaxial
cable to the video input of the monitor. Pay atten-
tion to the correct 75 Ω termination at the monitor or
in case of series connection at the last monitor.
With a cable length of more than 100 m, a video
amplifier should be inserted between the camera
and the long cable to compensate the signal loss
caused by the cable resistance.
2) Connect the phono inline jack (3) via a screened
cable to the audio input of the monitor.
3) Connect a regulated power supply unit with an out-
put voltage of 12 V
ing of 120 mA (e. g. PS-12CCD or PS-500ST from
MONACOR) to the power supply inline jack (2). For
the connection a plug with the dimensions 5.5/
2.1 mm (outside/inside Ø) is required. The positive
pole must be at the inside contact.
3.3 Adjusting the camera and the lens
1) After applying the operating voltage, the camera is
ready for operation. Switch on the monitor and
adjust the camera to the surveillance zone. When
inclining and turning the camera, pay attention that
the cables will not be stretched.
2) Adjust the desired focal length with the zoom ad-
justing ring (12): Release the knurled screw of the
ring and turn the ring. The focal length can be
adjusted continuously between wide angle (W) and
tele (T). Retighten the screw after the adjustment to
secure the ring against twisting.
3) With the focus adjusting ring (11) adjust a clear pic-
ture: Release the knurled screw of the ring and turn
the ring until the picture is clear. Retighten the
screw after the adjustment.
4) If in spite of sufficient illumination, the picture on the
monitor should appear too dark, or in case of glar-
ing light too bright, it is in general possible to further
open (direction +) or close (direction -) the iris with
the trimming potentiometer (10).
3.4 Further functions: BLC, SOFT, and ATW
The following functions can be adjusted by means of
the DIP switches (8) on the PCB at the rear side of the
camera module:
1) Switch 1: Automatic white balance
The white balance adapts the colour represen-
tation to various light sources. If the lighting condi-
tions do not change in the surveillance zone, the
automatic balance can be switched off. When
switching from ATW to HOLD, the last automatic
adjustment is maintained. For a manual white
balance, hold a white sheet of paper at a distance

of approx. 25 cm in front of the camera. If the auto-
matic system has adjusted itself to this colour tem-
perature, set the switch from ATW to HOLD.
2) Switch 2: Picture sharpness
A representation with sharp edges (position
SHARP) or with softer edges (position SOFT) can
be selected with this switch. A sharp representation
will improve the recognition of details, however, in
case of low light, picture noise will be more disturb-
ing.
3) Switch 3: Backlight compensation
With the backlight compensation activated
(position BLC), picture areas will be brightened up
which would appear too dark due to the high con-
trast in case of backlight. Switch off the backlight
compensation if the picture is improved by that and
no backlight exists (position OFF).
After all adjustments have been made, place the cover
and the dome on the base again so that the three
latches of the dome engage into the corresponding
cutouts in the base. Pay attention that the camera can
look through the open part of the cover. Lock the dome
again by turning it clockwise.
