Function and application
This type of lanyard with integrated stretch-type shock absorber (Type: see label) may only
be used in connection with an EN-361-complaint full body harness as a fall arrest system
used to reduce the impact forces (shock) on the human body with the impact forces being
reduced to a level of below 600 kg which is bearable by the human body. The impact force
depends on the falling weight (weight of the individual + tools, etc.) and the falling height.
This stretch-type shock absorber has been designed to reduce the impact forces below the
required value.
This lanyard with integrated stretch-type shock absorber is used in a fall arrest system
between the anchorage point at the object and the front or rear D-ring of the full body
harness. When climbing on lattice towers or when climbing to higher-positioned working
areas, it is particularly important to make sure that one safety karabiner of the lanyard rope of
the Twin lanyard is always hooked to an anchorage point.
The stretch-type shock absorber consists of two interwoven webbing straps. At the end of the
stretch-type shock absorber and at the end of the two lanyard ropes, there are either safety
karabiners (EN 362) or a loop. In a fall, the interwoven webbing straps of the stretch-type
shock absorber are torn apart, reducing the impact forces involved. In order to protect the
stretch-type shock absorber from UV radiation and damage, the rope has been folded into a
package and provided with a protective cover.
Notes on use
Notes on vertical use:
In case of vertical use, the safety karabiner of the stretch-type shock absorber is always
hooked to the front or rear D-ring of the full body harness, while the second safety karabiner
at the end of one of the lanyard ropes is hooked to an anchor device (EN 795) or an object.
The anchorage point should always be directly above the user.
This component part of a fall arrest system (lanyard + stretch-type shock absorber) must not
be attached to bag rings or eyelets for device bags or the like.
