The headband force for audiometric headphones applied is for the headphone 4.5 N +/- 0.5 N and for the bone
conductor 5.4 N +/ - 0.5 N, according to IEC60645-1 reqirements.
The B 71 Bone conducter is calibrated for use on the mastoid.

5. Use and maintainance of the system

5.1 Warming up time

Warning up time is not required. The Unity 2 system will be ready to use immediately after the power is turned on.
In case the Control Unit was stored in a cold environment before use, allow the system to reach room temperature
before turning the power on.

5.2 Audiometer maintenance

It is good clinical practice to test proper functionality and calibration of all audiometer headphones on
a daily basis. Perform a threshold measurement for both AC and BC transducers on your own and com-
pare it to earlier results before starting to work with the Unity 2 Audiometer module.
In case any deviation to the known perfomance is observed, do not continue to use instrument futher
with your patient before a re-calibration has been applied.
A new system comes completely calibrated from the factory. Generally factory calibration is valid for one year after pur-
chase. Please check the exact calibration expiration date given from the calibration certificate shipped together with
the system.

5.3 Calibration of the Unity 2 system

The Unity 2 system is a class 2 medical device and requires annual recalibration performed by a certified Audiometer
Service. The owner is responsible for proper maintenance and annual re-calibration of the system. Access to the calibra-
tion software is password protected, to avoid unintended modifcation of calibration values. The factory set password is
<12345>. It can be replaced by a more individual password. Store the new password carefully and keep it in a safe
place. There is no way to retrieve or overwrite the password once it is forgotten.

5.4 Performing Audiometric measurements

Before applying the headphone to the patient, check the proper connection of the cable connectors
to the instrument. Do not plug or un-plug the connectors, while someone is wearing the head-
phones. There is the danger that the patient may be subjected to very loud click sounds.
It is espected that the operator is skilled and Audiometric measurements using the Unity 2 system are performed
according to ISO EN 8253-1, -2, -3.
Selection of test frequencies, levels and functions can be done by using a pointer device (e.g. Computer Mouse) and/or
by using the hot-key of the Unity 2 keyboard. Please refer to the Software Reference Manual available from the Installa-
tion CD to learn how to properly work with the audiometer and perform the test set up appropriately.
