- Check that the dimensions of the opening that you have made match the dimensions in the
EN
relevant figure (fig. 15/16).
- 17 -
- Clip the cover with the fitted switch into the opening in the luggage compartment side
panelling such that all of the locking catches on the cover engage behind the support on
the side panelling (see arrows). If necessary, use a suitable tool to carefully lift the locking
catches until they engage correctly.
Fitting the tow bar to the vehicle
- 19 -
- Remove the seal caps from the openings provided for attaching the tow bar to the rear side
members (on both sides of the vehicle – see arrows). Then treat the surface around the
openings with a corrosion protection agent in the same way as the areas on the body-
work after the bar was removed.
- If necessary, remove any plastisol parts from the inside of the side members.
- 20 -
- Two people are required to carry out this step.
- Insert the tow bar (A), along with the side members, into the openings in the vehicle cover
panel and position them such that the bolt axes are located more or less in the middle of
the attachment openings in the side members.
- Loosely screw the bar to the vehicle chassis using the four M10 fastening bolts (B) and pull
it back. If it is not possible to screw in the bolts on the right-hand side of the vehicle (when
viewed in the direction of travel), detach the corresponding container on the rear side mem-
ber (depending on the equipment specification).
- Check that the tow bar is positioned correctly, and tighten the bolts to 55 Nm +90° (see
detail) in the following order (position of the bolts relative to the direction of travel):
1. Rear right,
2. Front right,
3. Rear left,
4. Front left.
Please note: New fastening bolts need to be used if the tow bar is
removed again and refitted.
- 21 -
- Remove the seal cap from the hole in the rear side section to enable you to pull through the
tow bar's wiring harness on the right-hand side of the vehicle (when viewed in the direction
of travel) (see detail).
- 22, 23 -
- Pull the wiring harness with connectors for the tow bar's electrical installation through the
hole and into the luggage compartment.
Please note: Push the grommet (included with the tow bar's electri-
cal installation) into the hole in the body to prevent water from
leaking in.
