Thank you for placing your trust in our company by purcha-
sing the Weller soldering iron LR 21. Production was based
on stringent quality requirements which guarantee the per-
fect operation of the device.
1. Caution!
Please read these Operating Instructions and the attached
Safety Information carefully prior to initial operation. Failure
to observe the safety regulations results in a risk to life and
limb.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for damage resulting
from misuse of the machine or unauthorised alterations.
The Weller soldering iron LR 21 corresponds to the EC
Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the basic safe-
ty requirements of Directives 89/336/EEC and 73/23EEC.
Safety Informations
● Always place the soldering iron in the original holder.
● Remove all inflammable objects from the proximity of the
hot soldering tool.
● Use suitable protective clothing. Risk of burns from liquid
solder.
● Never leave the hot soldering iron unsupervised.
● Never work on voltage-carrying parts.
2. Description
Our LR21 standard soldering iron is of universal application in
the electronics sector with its 50 W power rating and very
wide range of bits (ET range). An integrated platinum tempe-
rature sensor and a particularly powerful 24 V heater element
provide excellent dynamic temperature behaviour.
The integrated equipotential bonding wire (pin 5) can be used
to avoid potential differences in the working area. By this
means the soldering iron bit can be equipotentially bonded as
required via the supply unit. The anti-static version of the sol-
dering iron (handle and cord) complies with requirements for
electrostatic sensitive device safety.

mable materials from the immediate vicinity of the soldering
iron. Plug the connector into the supply unit and lock. Switch
on the supply unit and adjust the temperature as required.
Once the warm up period is over, wet the tip with a some sol-
der.
4. Equipotential Bonding
The possible ways of connecting the equipotential bonding
wire are described in the operating instructions for the sup-
ply unit.
5. Information on Use
● Changing the Tip
Hold the soldering iron with the tip upwards. Undo the hex nut
on the tip sleeve (tool 5 87 060 43 is available as an acces-
sory).
Careful, the soldering iron tip is hot!!
Remove the soldering iron bit.
The sensor is built into a corrosion-resistant stainless steel
body. For the optimal transfer of heat the tip of this body is of
a tapered shape that is precisely matched to the soldering
iron bit. Please ensure that this interface is not impaired by
dirt, foreign bodies, or damage since this will affect the pre-
cision of temperature regulation.
● Anti-static plastics contain a conductive material to pre-
vent static charging. This reduces the insulation properties of
the plastic. Work must not be carried out on live parts.
● The operating instructions for the supply unit used are
supplementary to these operating instructions.
