4. Product Description
4.1 Overview
The MTS 6516 VCI is used by professional technicians as
an aid in diagnosing and repairing automotive electrical
and electronic systems. The MTS 6516 VCI is designed
to connect the vehicle to a host PC computer application
which then functions though the MTS 6516 VCI for data
transfer and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) reprogram-
ming.
Using the VCI Manager PC application software, you
configure the MTS 6516 VCI to communicate with a host
computer. The MTS 6516 VCI is capable of communicating
over a USB cable or wireless (WLAN).
4.2 User group
The product may be used by skilled and instructed
personnel only. Personnel scheduled to be trained,
familiarized, instructed or to take part in a general trai-
ning course may only work with the product under the
supervision of an experienced person.
All work conducted on electrical devices may be perfor-
med by persons with sufficient knowledge and experi-
ence in the field of electrics and hydraulics.
4.3 PC System Requirements
The MTS 6516 VCI Software runs on a PC/Laptop. The
user interacts with the MTS 6516 VCI software for device
setup, and configuration for J2534 data transfer and ECU
reprogramming.

4.4 MTS 6516 VCI Kit Contents
The MTS 6516 VCI Base Kit includes cables and hard-
ware needed to transfer data and reprogram ECUs on
vehicles through the DLC connector.
The MTS 6516 VCI kit is available in three different con-
figurations. The Non-Wireless kit (p/n F-00K-108-824)
which includes the MTS 6516 VCI assembly without
a Wi-Fi adapter, the Wireless-Infrastructure-Mode kit
(p/n F-00K-108-999) which includes the MTS 6516 VCI
assembly with a Wi-Fi adapter, and the Wireless-Point-
to-Point kit (p/n F-00K-108-867) which includes the
MTS 6516 VCI assembly with a Wi-Fi adapter and a
Wireless 802.11n USB Module. Components common
to all three kit configurations are listed in the following
table.
