SECTION 2

2.1 GENERAL

Electric shock can kill! Ensure the line
(wall) disconnect switch or circuit
breaker is open before attempting any
inspection or work on the inside of the flow control.
Always wear safety goggles with side shields when
blowing out the flow control with low pressure air.
Maintenance work must be performed by an experienced
person. Do not permit untrained persons to inspect, clean,
or lubricate this equipment.
On a regular basis, check solenoid valves, regulators,
hoses, and gas connections for leaks using a soap solution
or a leak test solution.
Keep the flow control dry, free of oil and grease, and
protected at all times from damage by hot metal and
sparks.
Refer to F-15-116 (Esab Smart Plasma 1000 system) for
operational details and process troubleshooting.

2.2 CLEANING

Periodically, remove the cover from the flow control and,
wearing proper eye protection, blow accumulated dust and
dirt from the air passages and the interior components
using clean low-pressure air. It is imperative that the air
passages to the interior of the unit be kept free of dirt
accumulation to ensure adequate circulation of cooling air.
The length of time between cleaning will depend on the
location of the unit and the amount of dust in the atmo-
sphere.
After cleaning with low-pressure air, check for and tighten
any loose hardware, including all electrical connections.
Check for frayed and/or cracked insulation on all power
cables and replace if necessary.
Electric shock can kill! Failure to re-
place worn or damaged cables may
result in a bare cable touching a
grounded surface. The resulting elec-
trical arc may damage the unprotected eyes and will
present a serious fire hazard. Bodily contact with a
bare cable, connector, or conductor may ressult in
severe electrical shock, causing serious burns or
death.
