precautions to avoid a fall and use edge protection
where this isn't possible.
Before using the blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester,
check (figures 1.b):
– Check that the blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester
anchor point is located at the same height or above
the edge.
– Check that the angle formed by the lanyard in
contact with the edge, in the event of a fall, is less
than 90° (figure 1.b bis).
– The distance between the anchor point of the
blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester device and
the edge (L min) must conform with the technical
specifications in table above (figure 1.b).
– To reduce the risk of swinging, the movement of
the operator is limited to a maximum distance of
lateral displacement perpendicular to the edge
(Max M) which must conform with the technical
specification table above (figure 1.b).
– That there is no obstacle under the suspension /
swing area in the event of a fall.
– Check that a specific rescue plan has been set up
in the event of a fall.
– That the roofs do not show any possibility of
weakness (fibro-cement, etc.) if in any doubt,
install a solid path of movement compatible with
the roof.
– When used on a flexible anchor point such as a
lifeline, there is no risk that the maximum deflection
of the lifeline and the edge is greater than the
maximum deflection in the event of a person falling
– There are other possible cases that are not included
in this list. There are numerous other possibilities
that we cannot either list or foresee. In the event of
doubt or misunderstanding of this manual please
contact Tractel
for further information.

Fall Factor 2: The self-retracting fall arresters blocfor™
1.8 A, B and DUO EVO ESD have been tested for use
in Fall Factor 2 in accordance with European Standard
PPE-R/11.085_V2
Device with 2 retractable straps: The fall arrester
blocfor™ 1.8 DUO EVO ESD has been tested in
use with 2 retractable straps according to European
guideline PPE-R/11.124_V3 (figure 6.).

5. Operating principle

blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester EVO ESD:
In the event of a fall, the mecanism(s) located inside the
blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester instantaneously
locks by means of a ratchet system and the fall
is stopped gently by a tear-type energy absorber
with a stop value of less than 6 kN. When climbing
and/or descending, the lanyard operator is maintained
tensioned by the return spring.
In addition the blocfor™ EVO ESD automatic retraction
fall arrester is fitted with a safety system guaranteeing
that the fall of an operator is stopped in all safety even
if the fall occurs when the strap has completely come
out of the blocfor™ EVO ESD automatic retraction fall
arrester.
6. Clearance
If this equipment is connected to an EN 795 class C
lifeline, the maximum deflection (Hp) of the anchor
point as defined in the anchor point user manual must
be added to the clearance (values below). (figure 7d)
6.1. Vertical use
The clearance H (figure 7a) is the free space under the
operator's feet. It is defined by the formula below:
H = D + S + Hp
D: the stopping distance.
S: the 1 metre safety distance.
Hp: maximum deflection of the anchor point as defined
in the anchor point's operating instructions.
6.2. Horizontal use
The clearance H (figure 7b) is the free space under the
operator's feet in horizontal use. It is defined by the
formula below:
H = D + X + S + Hp
D: the stopping distance.
X: the distance from the operator's feet to the back
attachment point of the fall arrest harness.
S: the 1 metre safety distance.
Hp: maximum deflection of the anchorage point as
defined in the instruction manual for the anchorage
point.
6.3. Use of fall factor 2
The clearance H (figure 7c) is the free space under the
operator's feet in horizontal use. It is defined by the
formula below:
H = D + S + Hp
D: the stopping distance.
S: the 1 metre safety clearance.
Hp: maximum deflection of the anchorage point as
defined in the anchorage point's operating instructions.
