Description
3.2.3
4 to 20 mA interface
The 4 to 20 mA interface is configured in such a way that the system automatically recognizes if the receiver acts as current sink
or source (factory setting).
When the 4 to 20 mA interface is connected to 0 V (gnd), the receiver automatically acts as current source when it is switched
on. When the 4 to 20 mA interface is connected to supply voltage (Power+), the receiver automatically acts as current sink when
it is switched on. This behaviour can be configured. The system can be set to act as either current sink or current source. In this
case, automatic recognition is not possible. The following values for the different statuses are valid for all configurations
described.
The 4 to 20 mA interface signals the following states:
Status
Measuring value output
Over range
Under range
Warning
Maintenance
Fault
Beam Block
a) when using the SIL Lock: 0.5 to 3.5 mA
The status "maintenance" can be triggered by various maintenance functions. The maintenance functions are indicated by flash
patterns of the LEDs. In maintenance mode, the gas warning system automatically ends the activated maintenance function after
60 minutes and returns to measuring mode.
The transmitter does not have a 4-20 mA interface. The status "Warning" or "Fault" of the transmitter will be transferred to the
receiver if a DIGITAL LINK connection is installed.
3.3
Intended use
The gas warning system is used for stationary, continuous monitoring of areas where flammable gases and vapors containing
hydrocarbons could occur.
The gas warning system is approved for operation in hazardous areas.
3.4
Limitations on use
The gas warning system is not suitable for monitoring areas where temperature or pressure deviate from the ambient conditions
specified in section 8 on page 26.
The gas warning system must not be used in atmospheres with more that 21 % oxygen.
3.5
Approvals
For information on approvals see supplement 9033710.
3.6
SIL (Safety Integrity Level)
The gas warning system is SIL2 certified. If the gas warning system is to be operated according to SIL requirements, it must be
protected against accidental or unauthorized changes to the configuration. Thus, SIL lock must be activated. Two passwords are
available.
For applications with Safety Integrity Level observe Safety Manual 9033709.
