Installing electrical connections
3.2
Installation of field bus communication on the
Polytron 7000 transmitter
The transmitter can be connected to a certified, intrinsically safe field
bus system supporting FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept).
The PROFIBUS transmission technology for intrinsically safe
applications is MBP. MBP stands for: Manchester Coding (M), Bus
Powered (BP)
Five transmitters can be connected to a segment with a typical
segment current of 100 mA.
1. Install the 2-wire connection cable in the cable gland, cut to length
and strip ends (approx. 80 mm).
2. Shorten any shielding present so short-circuits cannot occur.
3. To connect the cable:
4-pin terminal for Polytron 7000 – observe polarity (Fig. D,
item 3).
Shorten excess wires or fix in the centre terminals (Fig. D,
item 2).
4. Push the connection terminal back into the holder (Fig. D, item 3).
5. Fix cable in mount.
6. Replace the rain cover (dust and rain protector).
CAUTION
!
Slide the 4-pin terminal (Fig. D, item 3) into the left-hand
holder.

3.2.1
Installing the transmitter in underground mines
susceptible to firedamp
Between the transmitter and the central controller, fit a safety barrier or
power supply with the relevant explosion protection approval (device
category 1 or 2, respectively).
Only safety barriers or power supplies with the following
characteristics may be used: U
5.32 W or FISCO-compliant units.
Take care that the maximum permissible capacitance and inductance
of connections to the safety barrier or power supply are not exceeded,
also taking the cable into account. The technical safety input
parameters of the transmitter are: Ci = 5 nF, Li = 10 μH
The transmitter may only be connected in 2-wire technology to the left-
hand 4-pin connection terminal (Fig. D, item 3) of the docking station.
No electric connections may be made to the right-hand 4-pin
connection terminal (Fig. D, item 1).
3.2.2
Installing the transmitter in zone 0 or zone 1 explosion-
hazard areas
Between the transmitter and the central controller, fit a safety barrier or
power supply with the relevant explosion protection approval (device
category 1 or 2, respectively).
Only safety barriers or power supply units with the following
characteristic values may be used:
U
≤24 V, I
≤0.38 A, P
