J2534 Programming
The VCI has automatic J2534 reprogramming capability enabled for reprogrammable vehicle controllers. The
reprogramming application must be purchased and downloaded from the vehicle manufacturer's web site and then,
installed on your PC. The VCI communicates the programming from the PC to the vehicle Electronic Control Unit
(ECU). It is recommended this reprogramming be performed through USB communication.
Frequently Asked Questions
• Why doesn't my VCI power on?
Ensure that the VCI is connected to the vehicle with the vehicle adapter cable or is connected to external power
adapter.
• Why doesn't my VCI turn on when connected to the vehicle?
Verify that the vehicle battery power pin and the grounds on the vehicle connector are good. If the vehicle connector
does not have a vehicle battery pin, use the external power adapter.
Useful Information
Maintenance
The VCI can become dirty being used in the automotive service environment. The VCI surfaces can be cleaned by
wiping them with a soft cloth. The soft cloth can be slightly damp with water or water and diluted, mild detergent. Be
sure to firmly wring out excess water from the cloth. Do no use harsh chemical cleaners (benzene, thinner, rubbing
alcohol, household cleaners, cosmetics, etc.) as these may adversely affect the surface (e.g. discoloration). Do not
directly spray or add water to the surfaces of the VCI. If liquid enters the inside of the VCI, it may cause it to work
improperly or become damaged.
If common automotive liquids come in contact with any surface of the VCI, remove them with a soft cloth immediately.
Cable Connections
Avoid damaging the VCI cables when attaching cables or connectors to the VCI:
• Use only parts supplied with or recommended for use with your VCI.
• Pay attention to the condition and position of connectors to make connections properly.
• Do not apply excess force if a connection cannot be made easily. Check the condition and position of the
connector. Check the alignment and pins of connectors.
• If a connector has screws for locking the connection, fasten the screws firmly.
• Do not carry the VCI from attached cables. Do not pull on cables with force.
