Improper installation of the oil filter can
cause serious engine damage.
6. Replace the O-ring and apply a thin coat
of engine oil to the new O-ring before
installing it.
7. Install the oil filter cover/O-ring and oil
filter cover bolts.
Oil filter cover bolt torque:
12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 9 lbf·ft)
8. Install the oil drain bolt with a new
sealing washer.
Oil drain bolt torque:
24 N·m (2.4 kgf·m, 18 lbf·ft)
9. Fill the crankcase with the
recommended grade oil;
If the oil filter was replaced:
1.4
(1.5 US qt, 1.2 Imp qt)
If the oil filter was not replaced, use
approximately:
1.4
(1.5 US qt, 1.2 Imp qt)
10. Install the oil fill cap/dipstick.
11. Start the engine and let it idle for 3—5
minutes.
12. 2—3 minutes after stopping the engine,
check that the oil level is at the upper
level mark on the oil fill cap/dipstick
with the motorcycle upright on firm,
level ground. Make sure there are no oil
leaks.
Running the engine with insufficient oil can
cause serious engine damage.
