7. Getting started
7.1. Setting up the CD compartment
Press OPEN/CLOSE on the CD compartment lid at the top right.
The CD compartment opens.
There is cardboard in the compartment before initial use. Remove it.
Close the CD compartment.
7.2. Battery operation – inserting the batteries into
the main device
The battery compartment is located on the back of the device.
Release both latches and remove the battery compartment cover.
Insert eight 1.5-V UM-1/D/R20 batteries (not supplied) with the negative ends on
the springs. Refer to the diagram in the battery compartment!
Replace the battery compartment cover. The latches must be locked into place.
The device is battery-operated if no mains cable is connected to the AC~ socket.

Risk of explosion if batteries are replaced incorrectly.
Replace batteries only with the same or equivalent
type.
7.3. Mains operation – connecting the mains cable
Connect the supplied mains cable to the ~AC IN socket on the rear of the de-
vice.
Plug the mains cable into an easily accessible 240 V ~ 50 Hz mains socket.
The device is mains-operated even if batteries are inserted at the same time.
7.4. Adjusting the aerial
There is a telescopic aerial on top of the device for radio reception.
Gently release the tip of the aerial from the catch on the right hand side of the
device. Then fully extend the aerial and turn or swivel it for optimum radio re-
ception.
